Mary Adams Obituary
MARY SUE ADAMS loving and beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother died at age 95, November 26, 2008 at the Golden Mesa Retirement Community. Mary Sue was born in Dallas, Texas on July 28, 1913. Her family moved to El Paso, Texas in 1916. She graduated from Loretta Academy and attended Texas Western College, taking classes in art and interior design. This background and her innate sense of style and color were always reflected in her homes and choice of fashion and remained with her all of her life. She was an informal advisor to her family and others in both fashion and home decorating. She married Louis O. Adams in 1931. She loved growing up in the Southwest-riding horses and hiking in the Franklin Mountains. She excelled in dance, performing in community and Sun Carnival programs during her teens and early twenty's. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing with her friends and participating in her church choir. She was actively involved in the El Paso Women's Club, El Maida Daughters of the Nile, and Asbury Methodist Church. She moved from El Paso in 1953, living in Los Angeles, CA, Abilene, TX and Dallas, TX (1965-2000). She was active in her church in all of these locations. In Abilene, she taught in the youth department at St. Paul Methodist Church; while in Dallas, she was an active member of Preston Hollow Methodist Church where she served in various volunteer groups. She was a "life-long learner" who read, led Toastmistress groups, went on educational tours, participated in discussion groups, and even attended classes at Southern Methodist University in Dallas when she was in her 80's. Most of all, she will be remembered as a mother and grandmother who always put her family and their well-being first---from providing extraordinary educational and cultural opportunities to offering the uncompromising love of a grandmother willing to care for and nurture her grandchildren any time and any place. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Adams, her parents and brother, George Casten. She is survived by her daughter, Arva Chappelle (Hugh), Las Cruces, NM, her son Louis W. Adams (Mary), Temple, TX; grand-daughters Susan Resley, San Francisco, CA, Wendy Dominguez (Mark), Roanoke, TX, Anne Adams, Chicago, IL; grandsons William Adams, Temple, TX, George Resley (Khalida), Joliet, MT and great grandchildren Zayna and George Resley II. Special thanks to Frances Herrera, Mary Sue's loving friend and caregiver for the past five years. Thank you Norma Duclos for your care, support, and friendship this past year. Also thank you Wendy Garza and the caregivers of Wendy's Help at Home. Mary Sue's joyous spirit, sparkling blue eyes and loving heart will always remain in our memory. As per her request she will be buried in Dallas next to her husband at Restland Memorial Cemetery following a funeral service at 10:00am, Tuesday, December 2nd at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
