James Caufman Obituary

James A. Caufman, age 78, of Erie passed away Monday January 24, 2011 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born June 1, 1932 in Girard, PA the son of the late Homer and Annette Waldo Caufman. James was a 1950 graduate of Girard High School and served as a Corporal with the U.S. Army during the Korean war. He was a former employee of Erie General Electric, was a draftsman at Reed Manufacturing, and retired as a machinist from Lord Corp. Jim was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting and fixing anything that was broke from toys to cars. He was also a past treasurer for the Erie chapter of American Association of Retired People and also enjoyed studying history. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Martha Carberry Caufman who died in 1996. James is survived by four daughters; Mercedes (Marcy) Boswell and her husband, Charles of Emporium, Pa.; Mary (Peggy) Hilliard and her husband, Greg of Erie; Jenise (Jenny) Brown and her husband, Rob of Saegertown ,and Joann Caufman and her companion, Scott Young of Erie. He is the grandfather of John & Elizabeth Boswell, Conner Hilliard, Austin & Aaron Brown, and Jamie Young. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. Thursday morning from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at which time Funeral Services will be held. Private burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Crossingville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, 4961 Pittsburgh Ave., Erie, PA 16509 or the John Kanzius Cancer Research Fund, 130 West 8th St., Erie, PA 16501.
