Daniel Bedner Obituary

Daniel P. Bedner, age 78, received the Gift of Eternal Life on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, while in the arms of his wife of 53 years, Judy, at his home in Austin, Texas. He was given the Gift of Life in Erie, Pa., on July 14, 1935, the son of the late Andrew Bedner and Stella Popielasz Bedner Lubak.

He graduated from Cathedral Prep and attended Gannon University, both of Erie, Pa.

Daniel was employed for 37 years with General Electric in Erie, Pa., before retiring in 1991. He and his wife raised four children during this time. He enjoyed the outdoors, and some of his favorite moments were spent along the shores of Lake Erie, boating and fishing in the lake and many creeks around his home. Many vacations were spent camping and taking road trips to visit family in Boston. He enjoyed working with his hands, remodeling his home, building furniture, and teaching his kids how to use tools. For those who loved him, he was a man for all seasons. He faced any situation with calmness and a keen sense of humor.

After retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively, before settling in Austin, Texas. They enjoyed many summers with their family at their camp in Ohio. He developed a passion for golf and became an avid "techno-weenie" who loved gadgets of all kinds. He was also employed by the IRS, as a seasonal worker, for five years during this time.

His life was spent taking care of his family and he left them with many wonderful memories. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stella and Andrew; and his sister, Rosemary Bedner Lubak.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Judith Roe Bedner, and their four children: Lori Kirk of Austin, Texas, Maria Rooney (Edward) of Auburn, N.H., Sean Bedner of Austin, Texas, and Christopher Bedner (Sarah) of Erie, Pa.; his sister, Patricia Bedner Phillips (Bill); one aunt, Genevieve Pollock; seven grandchildren, Tabetha, Rachael, Richard, Nicole, Amy, Liam, and Sam; two great-grandchildren, Gavin, and Salem; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Mass in celebration of the life of Daniel Paul Bedner, will be held on August 1st at 8 a.m., at Saint Patrick's Cathedral in Erie, Pa.

I love you Bedner family. Uncle Dan always gave me such good advice - which I use to this day. Plus, he always had the best sense of humor:) He will be greatly missed. Love you - Tracey
