Eva M. Reed

Eva M. Reed, 101, formerly of Pen Argyl, PA, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth, PA. Eva was born in Pen Argyl, PA on January 12, 1916, a daughter of the late Calvin E. and Esstella (Arnold) Sauerwine. She was the widow of Willard H. Reed, who passed away in 1994. She graduated with honors from Pen Argyl High School in 1933 and from the Bethlehem Business College in 1935 as Salutatorian. In her early years, Eva was employed as a secretary at St. Luke's Hospital and then at the Structural Slate Company. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pen Argyl, PA, where she served as Sunday school pianist and teacher and was a former President of the Lutheran Church Women. She also served as pianist and organist at the former Reformed U.C.C. Church in Pen Argyl. Eva was also a member of the auxiliary of the Slate Belt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she was a volunteer pianist for several years. Eva is survived by her sons, Robert and his wife Joanne and Richard and his wife Ellen, and a nephew Bruce Sauerwine and his wife Sherry. She was preceded in death by her brother Harold Sauerwine. Friends and family are invited to call between 10 and 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, at the James B. Gaffney Funeral Home, 200 S. Robinson Ave., Pen Argyl, PA, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. with Richard Lieberman officiating.
