William Norwich Obituary

William Gerald Norwich

Cocoa Beach

William Gerald Norwich peacefully passed away in his home on Sunday August 28th.  He was born in Mesa, Arizona and was one of five children born to Viola Caponi and Walter Norwich, both deceased.  At a very young age the family moved to Brevard County where he attended Cocoa High School and was a well known athlete.

"Billy" as he was often known as, went off to University of Florida where he earned a degree in Business and then was immediately drafted to Vietnam where he would serve in the army for three long years.  Upon returning from Vietnam he decided to get his Degree in Law (JD) and eventually went on to become an attorney.  He practiced in Cocoa Beach for almost 30 years.

While in law school, he met and married his forever best friend Mary "Pixie" Norwich and they continued this unique, loving relationship until his passing.  Although they divorced in 1989, they

remained in each other's lives daily and took care of each other as if they still were together.  They had one child, Shelby Leigh Norwich, and she was the apple of his eye.  Anyone who knew Billy Norwich knew that Shelby Leigh was the wind in his sail.

William is survived by his daughter, Shelby Leigh Norwich; former wife and best friend, Pixie Norwich; sister, Patricia Lemmons her husband Richard and son, Jason; brothers, Wallace Norwich his wife Vicki & niece and nephew, Valeria and Stas, Thomas Norwich and his family and brother, Wiley Norwich.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, Sept 1st from 5-7pm at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday Sept 2nd at 10:30am at Our Saviour's Catholic Church.

My family and I lived next door to Bill and his family on West Bay Dr in Cocoa Beach. Although a few yrs younger (probably 10-12 yrs old) and knew Wally better, I still remember the day he came home from SEA w/the large Welcome Home banner out front.

I moved away but over the yrs, my wife, kids, and I would return to visit my parents and would see Bill who was now living in his parents' home. Whether seeing him there or uptown (@ The Surf), he always mixed warmth, kindness, and humor in such an engaging, soft-spoken manner that you couldn't help but like him.

Although I knew Bill had passed, I'm just now seeing this 5 yrs after the fact and hope that those who love him still recall the warmth and light he brought to those around him.

I just found out that Billy had passed away and wanted to pass on my condolences to his family and friends. I was in the eighth grade with Billy at the old school across from what now is the library in Cocoa.
We remained good friends all these years.
Super Guy, one of a kind.

Rest in peace my friend

Billy was a great guy and a good friend who enjoyed life to the fullest. He was also a friend to many of those that were less fortunate in life. He always had someone under his wing that he would help get back on his /her feet. He treated everyone equal and would listen and advise anyone who had a problem. His hobby life was all about Boats Boats Boats. He had a photographic memory of any and all old boats that floated down our river. And, he knew his way around the Bahamas by water and road always stopping to talk with the locals. They remembered him and loved him. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. RIP big guy, go raise hell with Harold. Larry
