Richard Emery Obituary

BOSCAWEN — Richard Emery, 79, of Commercial Street, died on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 at CRVNA Hospice House in Concord.

He was born in Concord, the son of the late Albert and Lillian (Craft) Emery.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949, serving during the Korean War before being honorably discharged in 1952.

Richard worked for 17 years at Rumford Press and was a union member. He began his own business building and renovating dozens of homes in the Concord area.

All of his children learned love, compassion, honesty, integrity, inner strength and a strong work ethic from both parents.

He remained a strong, active and self-determined man until the end. Always bursting with energy, he enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, bowling, mechanics, pool, horseshoes, volleyball, badminton, rehabbing houses and snowmobiling. Most of all he enjoyed the time he spent with his wife and his ever-growing family.

Richard's greatest love was his beloved wife, Rose, with whom he shared almost 60 years. As a young teenager he told a friend "I am going to marry that girl someday."

The pride and joy of his life were his 7 children, and, later, 18 grandchildren, who loved and adored their fun-loving Grandpa. Each great-grandchild born to his family made him beam like a first-time dad, in Particular Tyger "Little Man" and Phoenix McHugh, who held a special place in his heart.

In addition to his wife Mary Rose (Provencher) Emery of Boscawen; he is survived by his four daughters, Donna Torres and her husband Moises of Shelby, N.C., Rhonda Estabrook and her husband Harold of Epsom, Claire Emery and her husband Roger French of Gilmanton, and Julie Emery and her husband Lewis Bowley of Cape May, N.J.; his three sons, Mark Emery and his wife Cheryl of Virginia Beach, Va., Richard Emery and his wife Tonya of South Lyons, Mich., and Dale Emery of Cape Coral, Fla.; grandchildren, Jeffrey Vigue, Jennifer Plummer, Jason, Matthew and Elizabeth Torres, Alex, and Gabe Estabrook, Meghan Sandfoss, Michael McHugh, James and Justin Collishaw, Lindsay, Lauren, Trevor, Jazzalyne, and Nikki Emery and Justin Turner; great-grandchildren, Brianna and Caleb Plummer, Dylan, Jakob and Brady Vigue, Katie Sandfoss, Phoenix and Tyger Jarvis McHugh; one brother, Albert Emery Jr. and a sister, Arlene Heaps.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Lovell "Lee" Emery, Chester Bickford and Ulmont Bickford; and a grandson Brian McHugh Jr.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Jan. 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main St., Concord.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel at the N.H. Veteran's Cemetery, DW Highway, Boscawen.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's memory to the CRVNA Hospice Program, 30 Pillsbury St., Concord, N.H., 03301.
