Richard Lagueux Obituary

SOMERSWORTH — Richard Lagueux, 86, of 14 Lincoln St., died Oct. 25, 2011, at his home, where he was born, following a period of failing health.

Born in Somersworth, N.H., March 20, 1925, he was the son of Peter J. and Mariange (Drolet) Lagueux. He attended St. Martin Academy and Dover Vocational School. Richard was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Farquhar (DE-139) which served in the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, providing destroyer escort against submarine and air attack for navy vessels and convoys. The USS Farquhar was the last American ship to sink a submarine in the Atlantic in World War II.

He was the owner and operator of Richard's Radio and TV Service for many years. He was a former member of the Catholic war Vets of Somersworth, a former member of the Somersworth Lions Club served as President and Secretary and on various committees and current member of the American Legion Post 69. Richard was also a current member of the Good Ole Sports of Rochester, Somersworth seniors and the South Berwick seniors. He was a communicant of St. Martin Church.

Richard enjoyed many years camping with his family at Ossipee Lake Camping Area. He was a loving husband and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Members of his family include his wife of 66 years, Doris (Southard) Lagueux; his daughters, Elaine (Gary) Leughmyer of Somersworth, Linda (James) Phinney of Rollinsford; three grandchildren, Christy (Jason) Strong, Jeffery Phinney and Stacy Leughmyer and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Martin Lagueux of Berwick, Maine and Raymond Belair of York, Maine, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Julian Lagueux and Robert Lagueux and a sister, Doreen Lagueux.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South St., Somersworth.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish in St. Martin Church, Somersworth, with the Rev. Michael S. Taylor, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth.

Family flowers only, please. Donations may be made to either the Wentworth Homecare & Hospice or to Cocheco Valley Humane Society.

Arrangements are entrusted to Bernier Funeral Home, Somersworth.
