Mildred Garrett Obituary

WOLFEBORO — Mildred C. Garrett, 97, of Birch Hill Estates in Wolfeboro, died June 8, 2010, at her son's home in Hollis, Maine.

Born Feb. 5, 1913, in Liberty, N.Y., the daughter of Arthur G. and Emma Rose (Meumann) Goff, she resided many years in Plainfield, N.J., where she graduated from Muhlenberg Hospital School of Nursing, as a registered nurse. She was a member of the hospital's team dispatched to assist in the Hindenburg disaster.

Mildred enjoyed antiques, New England, genealogy, her family and friends.

She maintained diaries and photo albums from grade school to recent months which reveal her character and values, as well as chronicle her personal encounter with 97 years of history.

She resided in Wolfeboro for many years, having previously lived in Sanbornville and Warner, N.H.

Mildred was a member of the First Congregational Church in Sanbornville and the Parish Helpers of the church, the Muhlenberg Hospital Nurses Alumna Association and the "Goff/Gough; Ancestors and Descendants" Association.

Widow of the late George W. Garrett, who died in 1999, she is survived by three children, James and wife, Patricia Garrett of Hollis, Nancy Garrett Scheier and husband, Stephen Scheier of Lebanon, N.J., and William and wife, Joyce Garrett of Plainfield, N.J.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard A. Goff of Little Silver, N.J.; two nieces and one nephew.

She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Cori Kurzawa, who died in 1984.

A funeral service will be held Friday, June 11, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Sanbornville with the Rev. Mary James, pastor, officiating. A calling hour will be held before the service from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Interment will follow at Lovell Lake Cemetery in Sanbornville.

Arrangements are in the care of Peaslee Funeral Home, 2079 Wakefield Road in Sanbornville.

A memorial service will be held at the Hollis Center Baptist Church in Hollis, Maine, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Congregational Church of Wakefield, United Church of Christ, 2718 Wakefield Road, P.O. Box 809, Sanbornville, NH 03872.
