Hazel Abbott Obituary

ABBOTT, HAZEL COMPTON



Hazel Compton Abbott was 89 years old. She passed away peacefully at Haven Hospice on October 3, 2008 after a 13-month battle with leukemia. Mrs. Abbott was born in Norton, New Jersey on July 4, 1919. She moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1948 and then to Gainesville, FL in 1968.



She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bridge, crocheting, needlepoint, and she was a GREAT Gator Fan! She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.



Mrs. Abbott was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton E. "Kip" Abbott, by her stepson, Lynn W. Abbott, of Tenafly, New Jersey, and by her brother, H. LeRoy Compton, of Edgewater, Florida.



Survivors are: a daughter, Barbara J. White, and a son-in-law, Doil White, of Gainesville, Florida; a son Glen C. Abbott, and a daughter-in-law, Jo Abbott, of Homosassa, Florida; one sister, Mildred Shannon, of Towson, Maryland; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Compton, of Edgewater, Florida; 4 grandchildren: Debbie (Steimle) Ponder & Sandi (Steimle) Sassenberger both of Marietta, Georgia, Brooke (Abbott) Townsend of Cape Coral, Florida and Matthew Abbott of West Palm Beach, Florida; 4 step-grandchildren: Dora White of Winter Park, Colorado, Mike Thompson of Paris, France, and Chris Thompson and Lindsay Thompson of New Port Richey, Florida; and 7 Great-Grandchildren.



A Memorial Service will be held Monday, October 13, 2008 at 11:00AM at Trinity United Methodist Church Chapel.



In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made by contributions to Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund, 4000 N.W. 53rd Avenue, Gainesville, Florida 32653 or to Haven Hospice of North Central Florida, 4200 N.W. 90th Boulevard, Gainesville, Florida 32606.
