DOROTHY NEWMAN Obituary
Dorothy Christoffers Newman of Melrose, Florida passed away on Monday, May 16, 2011. She was an accomplished and award-winning artist, best known for her portraits and landscapes. Born on Long Island in New York, Dot attended school at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota and the Banff School of Fine Art in Alberta, Canada. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Newman and is survived by her three daughters, Christine Newman (Raymond Lewis), Gretchen Newman (Steven Yesner), and Karan Newman (Charles Spitzner) and granddaughters, Courtney, Bailey, Kia, Lindsay, and Sharon.
Memorial donations may be made to the Community Hospice Bailey Family Center in St. Augustine or The Nature Conservancy, Florida Chapter.
A celebration of Dot's life will be held Thursday, May 19 at 11 am at her home. Please contact St. Johns Funeral Home (904) 824-1625 for more information.
St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

It always makes me laugh when I think about dropping by the house as a teenager and Muddy would say, "One of you girls fix this boy a sandwich." I had to eat a sandwich whether I was hungry or not. She must have been satisfied with my appearance finally , because at the last winter solstice she didn't get anyone to fix a sandwich for me. Thanks for the smile Muddy.
