POPP, DANIEL McVAGH, 75
Daniel McVagh Popp, age 75, professor of Germanic Languages & Literature, passed away August 15th at North Florida Regional Hospital.
Dan was born and grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he graduated from Northside Highschool. He was the son of Alberta Loop Popp and Milton F. Popp, MD.
Dan earned his BA in Art History at Yale University. He earned his MA and Ph.D. at the University of Chicago, specializing in Scandinavian Languages & Literature. He taught at the Univ. of Kansas in Lawrence, Saint Olaf College, Minnesota State Univ. Moorehead, and the University of Florida. He was affiliated with the Univ. of Oslo, Norway, and Uppsala University, Sweden.
Over his career, he taught German and a broad array of Nordic studies, including Old Norse/ Icelandic, Sagas and Mythology, Norwegian, Swedish, and Contemporary Scandinavian Literature.
Daniel is survived by his wife Reda and three daughters; Randi Popp Wells, husband Steve, and children, Jackson and Addison; Kari Popp Slattery, husband Randall, and children, Jake and Delaney; and Danielle Popp. He is also survived by brothers Michael and Edward Popp, Aunt Jeannette Popp Kent, and seven cousins.
There will be a memorial service for Dan at the Baughman Center on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 10:15 AM.
