Kevin James Griffin was born in Chicago July 17, 1967 to Rena (Sullivan) and Patrick Griffin. The family moved to Riverton, Wyoming in 1969 where Kevin grew up with his siblings and graduated Riverton High School in 1985. Following graduation Kevin attended Northwest Community College in Powell and the University of Wyoming in Laramie. Excelling in sports, Kevin received numerous wrestling accolades both at the high school and collegiate level. He met the love of his life Pamela Barton while they were both attending Northwest Community College. They were married on August 1, 1987 and recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Kevin leaves behind two wonderful children, Dane (22) and Kylie (15). He enlisted in the United States Army on March 7th, 1988. Kevin had a stellar military career of over 24 years where he advanced to the position of Brigade Command Sergeant Major of the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division where he was killed in action in Afghanistan on 8 August 2012. CSM Griffin's awards and decorations includes 5 Bronze Star Medals, Purple Heart Medal, and 3 Meritorious Service Medals, 2 Army Commendation Medals w/ Valor, 4 Army Commendation Medals, and 8 Army Achievement Medals, Recruiting Badge (3 gold Sapphire), Gold Recruiting Ring and the coveted Combat Action Badge to name a few. He was preceded in death by both his parents. He is survived by his wife Pamela and daughter Kylie of Colorado Springs, Colorado, son Dane stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, very close in-laws Bruce and Carol Barton of Sheridan, Wyoming, sisters Pam and husband Don Nicholls of Rawlins, Wyoming, Sheila Hansen of Cathedral City, California, brothers, Shawn and wife Shelley of Riverton, Wyoming, Dan and wife Sherry Griffin of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Matthew Griffin of Hudson, Wisconsin, and step-mother Carol Griffin of Hudson, Wisconsin and numerous nieces and nephews. Kevin enjoyed being with friends and family, traveling and golfing. He believed in living life to the fullest. He truly loved the military, his country, but above all, he loved his family very much. Visitation will be held Monday, August 20, 2012 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Swan Law Funeral Directors. Services will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Soldiers Memorial Chapel on the Fort Carson Army base beginning at 10 am. Burial will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver scheduled to begin at 2:30 pm.
