Robert Larimer Obituary

Robert C. Larimer, husband, father, son, and friend to so many, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in a car accident in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Rob was born November 27, 1973 in Denver, Colorado to his surviving parents Charles F. and Mary E. (Shea) Larimer of Denver, Colorado. He is survived also by his wife, Michelle Beckmann of Manitou Springs, Colorado, and their twin daughters Gretchen and Rachel; his sisters Miranda (Larimer) Ash and Felicity Larimer both of Denver, Colorado, and innumerable friends and extended family whose lives he touched in many ways. He was preceded in death by grandparents Fred H. and Wynemah (Couch) Larimer of Fort Worth, Texas and Gerald A. and Mabel L. (Enyart) Shea of Denver, Colorado.

Rob attended Our Lady of Lourdes in Denver and graduated from Denver South High School in 1992. He later attended Metro State University in Denver where he studied journalism. His professional life included time at The Rocky Mountain News and Metro North Newspapers in Denver, then The Slice, The Colorado Springs Business Journal and The Gazette in Colorado Springs.

Rob's greatest passions were his children and music. He was the best dad ever, and every outing was a grand adventure full of possibility. His children loved the fun he crafted in everything they did. Music fed his soul and shaped community with those he touched. He was lead guitarist in Slightly Bent until 2013, and he started a homegrown monthly music jam called the Sunday Ramble which he and his wife usually hosted in their home.

In memory of Rob and the spirit of community he created, the Sunday Ramble group is hosting a grand Sunday Ramble for everyone to enjoy, 1:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014 at Venue 515 in Manitou Springs, Colorado. The traditional remembrance will begin at 1:00 p.m. and will be followed by a Sunday Ramble jam like no other, which means you should bring your instruments or your groove, and a dish to share which is traditional Sunday Ramble style. It's all about community and Rob would want it this way. Also feel free to bring a photo or memento to add to a memory display dedicated to Rob.

Your friendship with Rob was the greatest gift. If your heart is so moved, and in lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make gifts to the "Gretchen and Rachel Benefit Fund," c/o US Bank Attn. AJ Hoerth, 6 S. Tejon St., Colorado Springs, CO 80903.

Rob..we only met once at Clints house for a Ramble. We hit it off right away. You were kind to me and my wife and welcomed us into your world of friends...and you have many. My sorrow is not deserved...but still heartfelt. You left to soon but gave so much while you were here. As a father myself, it is grand to see a another man take such pride in being a dad. You done good dude...very good!

Rob, you were a great mentor the summer that I interned at MetroNorth, green as could be. I learned a lot from watching you work and reading your writing in the Westminster Window. And then you were thoughtful enough to look me up and alert me when a job opened up the following spring. I could not have been more thrilled when that worked out, and I knew I had you to thank for getting the ball rolling.

Your dedication and humor, along with your kindness and talent, were striking to me.

Sending good wishes to your beautiful wife and daughters.

Billy Joel said it all....."Only the good die young" and good you were, ever since I've known you! I knew everything would fall into place for you and it did, unfortunately, cut short....I knew you were gonna be one heck of a father, just by the way you taught swim lessons when you were only a kid yourself. You touched many of us and we are all blessed to have known you.....until we meet again Rob, RIP

I went to High School with Rob. I remember him as a popular guy but was always friendly. He was also a friend of mine's neighbor so we often socialized together. I'm so sorry by your sudden loss. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I'm not even sure when I first met Rob, but it would have been through the Business Journal. He was so easy to like, and he just always had a smile, a joke, and a kind or encouraging word for everyone. He always made me laugh and had a gift for making me feel special and like I was in one some fabulous inside joke with him. I know he made so many other people feel the same way. Whether it was through work, play, or volunteerism, it was always a joy to run into Rob. He was one of a kind, and he'll be missed terribly. Love and prayers for Michelle and their little ones.

I met Michelle several years ago when she bought one of my puppies and then again, when she took in Annie. Over the years through Michelle, I felt I knew Rob with his wonderful witty comments he would post on her posts. I had always planned to go hear his band play! The love he had for her and their children always shone through with the photos shared! The world is a little less brighter with his loss and my heart goes out to Michelle, Rachel and Gretchen. May God bless you and the girls Michelle, as you learn to live without Rob until you are all together again!

I didn't know him as Rob, but rather Bob, as he was known throughout school. We went through Lourdes with a class of nine people. Because of that we will have a connection no matter how many years pass. I am truly sorry that we did not get in touch before now. I never expected twenty years to pass so quickly. What a great person Rob was. What a gift to all of us who knew him, no matter what time of our life it was in. I know he will be truly missed. I only remember good things about him. Rest in Peace and blessings to his family.

I have so enjoyed watching the twins grow up and seeing how each outing turned into a memorable adventure for them. There are no words to describe how much you will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this most devastating of losses.
