Rudolph Victor Valentino

Rudolph Victor Valentino, 80, of 433 Gemstone Lane, Danville, VA died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Stratford Health Care after a decline in his health for the past two years.

Mr. Valentino was born November 25, 1929 in Plainfield, New Jersey, a son of the late Joseph Valentino and Theresa Valentino. He had lived most of his life in New Jersey and had been a resident of Danville since 1990. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1952. He retired from A.T. & T as a Field Installer and he was of the catholic faith. He was a member of the V.F.W. and an American Legion Post in New Jersey and he enjoyed bowling and woodworking.

On September 24, 1971 he married Ruth Gunderson Valentino, who survives.

In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by a daughter, Lori Valentino, and husband Rex of Alaska; a step daughter, Karen Katzenbach, and husband Steven of Somerset, N.J., a step son, Robert William Oyer, and wife Coleen of Millburn, N.J., a daughter-in-law, Donna Valentino of Edison, N.J., a brother, Joseph Valentino of Plainfield, N.J., a sister, Anne Poliseo of Kernersville, N.C., eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rudolph Valentino, Jr. on April 24, 2010, and a sister, Mary Valentino.

Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover Chapel with the Rev. Father Joseph Torretto officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon at the funeral home from 2:00 4:00 p.m. and Thursday evening from 7:00 8:00 p.m. Also, the family suggests that memorials may be made to the Brosville Fire & Rescue, 11912 Martinsville Hwy, Danville, VA 24541.
