Kenneth Hanselman Obituary

Kenneth W. Hanselman, age 83 of Highland, IL, died Friday, January 24, 2014, at IL Veteran Home, Quincy, IL.
He was born on Friday, February 21, 1930, in Highland, IL, the son of Otto L. and Alma (nee Gilomen) Hanselman.
On Saturday, November 15, 1958, he married Anne L. Hanselman (nee Mease) who passed away on Thursday, September 16, 1999.
He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL; V.F.W. Post 5694, Highland, IL; former member of Meatcutter's Local 534 - Belleville, Il.
Mr. Hanselman was born at Highland, IL; grew up in Highland and graduated from Highland High School in 1948. He entered military service in September of 1948 and served over 20 years. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant, having served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars with duty in Spain, Japan, Turkey, Guam and at the Air Force Academy in Colorado. After his retirement, he worked at Scott Air Force Base, Belleville, Illinois for some 13 years as a meatcutter, retiring in February of 1985. Always active, he had enjoyed bowling for a number of years, played golf, jogged, walked and he and his wife had traveled every year. He did extensive genealogy on the Hanselman family and he liked having a nice car. In November of 2012 he moved to the Illinois Veteran's Home, Quincy, IL.
Survivors include: Son - Barry J. (significant other-Connie Royston) Hanselman, Edwardsville, IL; Step Grandchild - Josh Curry, Seattle, WA; Sister - Shirley Luber, Highland, IL.
He was preceded in death by: Father - Otto L. Hanselman; Mother - Alma Hanselman nee Gilomen; Wife - Anne L. Hanselman, died who died Sept. 16, 1999; Step-Son - Richard "Rick" Curry; Brother-in-law - Jules Luber, Highland, IL
Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Illinois.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 26, 2014, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
Funeral service will be at 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 26, 2014, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, with Rev. Christopher W. Hill, Senior Pastor, Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL, officiating.
Private interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL, on Friday, January 31, 2014.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
