Daniel Farago Obituary

MISSOULA Our brother Daniel Farago, 57, formerly of Great Falls, died of heart failure Wednesday, Oct. 31, in Missoula.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family memorial service for Dan will take place at our family cabin in Lincoln this spring.

Dan was born April 24, 1955, in Great Falls to Bill and Evelyn Farago.

Dan loved the outdoors. In Dan's childhood, he would spend the summers with his two brothers at the family cabin in Lincoln. We would spend the days fishing, hiking, exploring and riding our horses. Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, biking and most outdoor activities.

In high school, he played football, threw the javelin and was involved in musicals. He was also a soccer player.

After graduating from Great Falls High School, Dan attended the University of Montana, where he graduated with a degree in education.

Dan married Janell Steffani; they had two children, Cory and Kyle. After college, both he and his wife taught school in Valier.

It was at this stage in his life, that he was diagnosed with MS. Dan made a decision to go back to school at UM, where he received his graduate degree in physical therapy. He worked in Great Falls for a few years as a physical therapist, but his MS would force Dan into disability retirement.

When Dan became wheelchair-bound, he still enjoyed the outdoors as much as possible. He shot two elk from his wheelchair, one a very nice bull.

As the MS worsened, Dan, in his early 50s, was admitted to the Eagles Manor in Great Falls. He and Janell divorced, and Dan was moved to Missoula where he lived the remainder of his life in Hunters Glen Assisted Living.

Dan enjoyed Hunters Glen, and was very well taken care of by their caring staff. Through it all, he never complained about his illness, and always had a big smile on his face.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, William and Evelyn Farago; and a grandson.

He is survived by his two children, Cory of Liberty Mo., and his grandson, Clarence; his son Kyle of Great Falls; brothers Ken and Tom Farago of Missoula; a sister, Kristy Farago of Helena; and many nieces and nephews.

I am so fortunate to have known Dan...even if it was a long time ago & for too short a time. He worked with my class of young, special needs students here in Great Falls. He was a kind, gentle person and the students adored him. He faced the challenges of MS with grace & dignity and set a high standard for all of us to follow. I am thankful that our lives crossed paths.....may you rest in peace, Dan. My thoughts & prayers are with your family & all who knew you. God Bless! Margie Duren

To Dan's Family and Friends,
I am very sorry to learn that Dan passed away. Dan faced his MS with faith and grace. He was a gentle man with a deep gentle voice. He was generous. A few years ago he gave me a large Monte Dolack print of bicycle riders on the Going to the Sun Highway. This print is very special to me as was Dan.

To Dan's family; I had the privelege of teaching with Dan while in Valier. He was so upbeat and had a great sense of humor. I lost touch with him after leaving Valier, and was so sad to hear his passing. Just remember all the good times with Dan and all the lives he touched, mine included.

Hello family and friends of Dan,
What a sad thing to see in the paper today. Dan was admired and loved by many people and was an inspiration with his fight on MS. We all loved him.
