How to place an obituary in Green Bay Press-Gazette


When you send us an email requesting for your obituary to be printed in our paper, we will set it up in our system, then send you back a proof of what it will look like, along with a price quote. We will work with you at that time to make any changes necessary so that the look and price of the obituary are acceptable to you. The obituary will not print unless it is paid for before the deadline for the date it is set to print. When working with you through email, we will give you our phone number, which you may call to provide credit or debit card information for payment. Once you have paid for your obituary, we will send you a receipt, and you can expect to see it in the edition of the paper you chose, and online on


In the email you send to us requesting your obituary be printed, we will need the following information:

1. Your name
2. Your phone number
3. The exact text you want to be printed
4. Any photo or photos you would like printed
5. The name of the funeral home taking care of arrangements*
6. The phone number of the funeral home taking care of arrangements*
7. The name of our paper**
8. The date you would like to see your obituary printed

*Before we can publish any obituary, we must verify the passing of the decedent with a licensed party for our records. If you are not working with a funeral home, the name and number of a mortuary, crematorium, or medical donation program will also be sufficient. If you do not have that information, we can also accept a scanned death certificate. Please note that if this information is not already contained in the text of your obituary, then it will not be printed, and will be kept private.

The text and photo(s) you provide may either be attached to the email as separate files, or contained in the body of the email. Photos will print in black and white and show up online in color.

**We handle the obituaries of several local papers in our office, so to set up your obituary correctly and get the proper price quote, we will need to know which paper you intend to print in. You may choose to print in more than one of our papers, just let us know.

If you are unable to email us this information, you may fax it to us at the number in the contacts section below, however, our front office will not be able to assist you in scanning, faxing, or sending anything to the obituaries department. Our front office, located at 435 E. Walnut St., is not open to the public.

Otherwise, if you would like a breakdown of the costs for placing an obituary, the information is below:

The total price of the obituary is calculated by adding the base/placement fee, a cost-per-line fee, a photo fee (if applicable), and a logo fee (if applicable), all together.
The base fee is $40.00.
The cost per line is $2.41. A line is about 25 characters, meaning letters, spaces, and punctuation. If your obituary is two newspaper columns wide, then each line that spans both columns will count as two total lines.
The cost to include a photo is $20.00. Photos will print in black and white and show up online in color.
The cost to include a logo/emblem is $15.00, plus an additional 2 lines per column.

We also offer discounts for printing an obituary more than one day. If you decide to print with us for two days, the second day will receive a 35% discount. For three days, the third day is free. If you decide to print your obituary longer than that, the cycle starts over on the fourth day, meaning the fourth day would be full price, the fifth day 35% off, and so on. All print dates must be ordered and paid for at the same time, and the obituary must stay 95% the same from day to day to receive these discounts.


The obituaries office, located in a separate building from the front office, is open regularly Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CT. On Saturdays, we are open from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM CT. On Sundays, we are open from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM CT.

If you would like to print your obituary on any day from a Tuesday to a Saturday, we would need the obituary completely set up and paid for before 4:00 PM CT the day prior, at the latest.

If you would like to print your obituary on a Sunday or Monday, we would need the obituary completely set up and paid for before 1:00 PM CT the day prior, at the latest.
