Drew Johnson Obituary

Our gentle giant lost his battle with bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia, Drew Elliott took his life on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, in Milwaukee. He was born on June 24, 1988, in Green Bay and graduated from Ashwaubenon High School in 2006. At the time of his death, Drew was pursuing his doctorate in economics, while also employed as a graduate teaching assistant in the Economics Dept. at UW-Milwaukee.

He was the treasure of his parents, Rick and Amy (Johnson) Johnson, and cherished brother to Jesse and Brandon Gerrits and Lindsey and Chase Johnson. He is further survived by his paternal grandma, Jeanne Johnson, many aunts and uncles, and the loves of his life, Molly Flynn, and Morris, his cat.

Drew was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alfred and Edna (Flynn) Johnson; paternal grandfather, Harold Johnson; and uncles, Christopher and Jeffrey Johnson.

In the short time Drew was gifted to us, he taught us so much about love and compassion. His sense of humor and intelligence brightened many lives. Bluebird, you will live in our hearts forever.

Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at Lyndahl Funeral Home. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2771 Oakwood Avenue, Green Bay, where a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Demuth officiating.

My heart goes out to the loved ones close to Drew. I always enjoyed a visit from him at the spa to visit his mom Amy. He would always ask, "So, how's business?" So kind, loving, welcoming and gentle. He knew how to make people feel comfortable. I will miss him. I love you Amy, you are in my thoughts. Be kind to yourself.

Drew had the greatest sense of humor. I will never forget the times I spent just sitting back and watching him joke around with his brother, Brandon. They are a sarcastic/dry riot. Drew was such an awesome individual. My deepest sympathies.

Drew was my Economics teacher this semester. I visited him in office hours many times and he was always very helpful. He gave me great advice on my portfolio as well. He gave me the confidence I needed to think I could actually make a difference in economics. He was very clever and funny. He always had the entire class laughing with his jokes. I'll never forget the advice he gave me, and I'll never lose the confidence he instilled in me. My deepest sympathies go out to his co-workers, friends, and family.

I am so sorry for your loss. Drew was my professor at UWM this semester. I have never had a professor that cared so much for me and my education. I was struggling in school and he helped me back up. I truly looked up to him and I hoped to be just as successful as him someday. You are all in my prayers, and he will never be forgotten.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Johnson,
Drew was a student in one of my courses at St. Norbert College. Although it was an intensive summer course that only met for three weeks, that was more than enough time for me to realize that he was an exceptionally bright young man. Please know that your family will be in my prayers regularly throughout the coming days and beyond.

Amy, my heartfelt sympathy is extended to you, Rick, and your family during this difficult time. Trust in our God as you travel this road. Drew will be such an inspiration to many people and will never leave your hearts. Also having lost a child I know that your hearts are breaking, but know that Drew will never be forgotten by the many people he touched. A favorite memory of mine is when you lived at 418 and I lived at 425...the May/June of 1988 was very warm - do you remember both of us (you pregnant with Drew and I was pregnant with Andrea)sitting in the "kiddie" pools in the driveway to cool off?! Let the memories sustain you and let friends help you as you begin the healing process. God Bless.

My thoughts & prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. I did not know Drew or know you, his family. However, I too lost my brother this same tragic way. It will be 3 years next week 12/21. He also was a graduate from Ashwaubenon High School in 1992. There are no words I can express to make this easier on you. Just know Drew is free now and no longer hurting. He will find a way to let you know that. He will be your Gardian Angel. Hold each other tight and help each other through the holiday season and the days moving forward. My heart aches for your loss of Drew. I am so sorry. May you all find peace in the days to come.
