Cecilia Czerwinski Obituary

CECILIA K. CZERWINSKI - 86, a longtime resident of Greenwich, CT, passed away on November 20, 2005 at The Nathaniel Witherell. She was born November 11, 1919 in Adams, MA to the late Albert and Sophie Stoklosa Kozieja.

While attending the St. Stanislaus Parochial School, she spoke her native language of Polish. English was learned as she attended and graduated from the former Adams High School as a Latin Scholar. She graduated from the Fannie Farmer Cooking School in Boston with a culinary degree. After she worked as a private chef for several years, she became the Dessert Chef at the Hotel Mount Washington in New Hampshire. During the Bretton Woods Conference there in 1944, Josef Stalin asked to meet her, so he could personally compliment her on the desserts she had created. She was a member of the Greenwich Adult Day Care for many years and was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church.

Shortly after her marriage in September of 1938, she and her husband, Frederick, moved to Greenwich where they bought and ran the Margaretha Bake Shop at 156 Greenwich Avenue for 25 years.

Her husband, Frederick, predeceased her in July of 1987. She is survived by her daughter Irene and son-in-law Christopher Theriot; her grandson, Jason Theriot of Boston, MA; and her niece, Elizabeth Williams of Byram, CT.

Family and friends may call at the Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street, Greenwich on Friday, November 25 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 26 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside.
