Eugene Pate Obituary

Pate, Eugene A.
Eugene A. Pate, 54, of Old Greenwich passed away at Greenwich Hospital on January 9, 2014 with his loving family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Eugene was born in New York City and moved to Greenwich in 1973 at the age of 14. He graduated from Greenwich High School in 1977, and attended West Liberty State College in West Virginia where he met his future bride, Nicole. Eugene received his BA from Sacred Heart University and worked for many years in Sales at Nestle Water NA in Stamford, CT. A devoted father and husband, Eugene was a fixture at his sons' many baseball, football, and basketball games. When Eugene wasn't cheering for his sons from the many varied sidelines, he enjoyed reading, playing softball with the Greenwich adult softball league, taking his kayak out into Long Island Sound and fishing. Eugene also enjoyed volunteering for the annual North Mianus Pow Wow, even after his sons graduated. Eugene was blessed to have so many loving and devoted friends from childhood, his softball team and the North Mianus Bull Dog community. He is survived by his best friend and wife Nicole, sons Brett and Adam; his mother Betty Pate of Cos Cob, CT; father Eugene Pate of Whiting, NJ; sisters Eileen Tweddle (Herbert) of Cos Cob, CT and Liz Pate of Riverside, CT; brother James Pate of Cos Cob, CT; several nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins.
A Wake will be held on Monday, January 13 from 4-8 pm at Leo P. Gallagher's Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street, Greenwich, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 14 at 10 am at St. Mary's Parish, 178 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich, CT. A private burial will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a "Pate Children Educational Trust " has been established. Donations may be mailed to the Law Offices of Eileen M. Pate, LLC. 80 Fourth St. Stamford, CT 06905. To leave an online condolence please visit www.leopgallaghergreenwich.com

Nicole and family, please accept my most sincere condolences. I loved Eugene and am praying for your family and you to have peace with the everlasting memory of how much Eugene loved you. One of the best things about him was among our group of friends with lots of testosterone and bravado, he was always one to be gracious and humble when a calming voice was needed. May he and you enjoy an extra measure of God's grace.
“God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble." James 4:6
