Laurence Lohman Obituary

Lohman, Laurence
Laurence Lohman of Chapel Hill, NC, formerly of Old Greenwich, CT, died on December 4, 2016 at the age of 95. His parents were Jacob Pons and Sally Cinader Lohman. Laurence was a graduate of Rye (NY) High School and Swarthmore College. He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in a special intelligence unit within the 12th Army Group and then completed graduate school at Columbia University on the GI Bill. He became a Certified Public Accountant and ably served his private and corporate clients in and around New York City, commuting from Connecticut for many years before retiring to North Carolina. He was predeceased by his brother Arthur in 2013. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judith, and was the devoted father of John (Ellen), Tom (Tracy), Andy (Sharon), and Kate (Paul). He also leaves four grandsons: Laurence, Lucas, Jack and Isaac. Those who knew him admired his character, intellect and work ethic and will miss his wry sense of humor, which included a genetic inability to resist punning and the sage advice to "eschew obfuscation." He also wrote an ad that reminds us of him on several levels: "Wanted: home for good dog. Eats anything. Loves children." Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Dear Mrs. Lohman and family,

I have fond memories of our times spent in the classroom, on the soccer pitch with a jocular Beastie and sharing a baseball hat with Andy on the diamond as competitors. Mr. Lohman and the lessons he imparted will forever remain in your hearts as you will remain in mine.

Kind regards,
