Alfonso Ochoa Obituary

United States Marine, Lance Corporal Alfonso Ochoa Jr., age 20, of Armona, passed away of injuries sustained in hostile action in Bakwa, Afghanistan on Oct. 10, 2009. Corporal Ochoa was received home by his loving family on Friday, Oct. 17, 2009 at NAS Lemoore Naval Air Station with the highest of honors.

Alfonso was born in Hanford, Calif. on September 4, 1989 to Alfonso C. Ochoa, Sr. and Ramona Ochoa. He was raised and educated in Armona and Hanford, graduating from high school in 2007. Alfonso enjoyed shooting, hunting, soccer and riding quads. He loved sports, history, boxing, golf and animals. He entered the United States Marine Corp on January 13, 2008. Alfonso married Blanca Angelica "Angie" Alva Rugerio in Honolulu, Hawaii on April 24, 2009. He was deployed to Bakwa, Afghanistan on May 29, 2009. Alfonso had an undetermined amount of drive, potential and compassion. He was very family oriented and devoted. His way of making people laugh was incomparable. But overall, Alfonso was fearless; his bravery stayed true until his last breath.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Angie Ochoa of Armona, Calif; his parents, Alfonso C. Ochoa, Sr. and Ramona Ochoa of Armona; his two brothers, Daniel Ochoa and Alex Ochoa, both of Armona; his grandparents, Margarito and Micaela Miramontes of Visalia, Calif.; his mother -in-law, Blanca Rugerio of Las Vegas, Nev.; his sister-in-law, Maria and brother-in-law, Attilio, both of Las Vegas, NV; many extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be held at First Christian Reformed Church, 2175 Leoni Dr., Hanford, CA 93230 on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will follow on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009 at 10 a.m., also at First Christian Reformed Church of Hanford. Alfonso will be laid to rest at Grangeville Cemetery in Armona.

Arrangements are entrusted to People's Funeral Chapel, 501 N. Douty St., Hanford, CA 93230 584-5591.

To the family of LCpl Ochoa:

I don't know you and you don't know me. But I'll give you a little backstory of how I came to know Alfonso. I am prior Air Force and I was stationed at Camp Bastion, Afghanistan. I first heard the name Lance Corporal Alfonso Ochoa during the receiving line at his Angel Ceremony on the flightline of Bastion. This was the first Angel ceremony I had ever been a part of, and even to this day, I haven't forgotten it, nor LCpl Ochoa.

It saddens me to know that a great American, Marine and your relative have been taken from this world. Please know that the words: No Marine left behind was quite true on the night of Alfonso's Angel Flight. There were Marines, Airmen, Sailors, Civilians, and Contractors standing tall and at attention saluting your loved one during his final call.

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of your loved one; I just wish he and I would have met under different circumstances.

Thank you to LCpl Ochoa for serving and thank you all for being his family.

With love and respect,

Steve Thomas

To the family of Alfonso. I want to assure you that your son is not forgotten. I will be honoring his life today at 2pm reading his story. Everyday my company honors a fallen hero. Today I chose him because he passed on my birthday. Not only for this reason but becuase I was deeply touched by his story. He was so young yet so willing to fight for our freedom and was letting nothing stop him. May God give to you peace in knowing that he is now in the arms of our Father and that you will see eachother again.
God Bless,
Heather

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Alfonso will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Lcpl. Ochoa, and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of freedom and liberty. Sadly, America has lost one of its finest heroes, the U.S. has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage, which they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Lcpl. Ochoa has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family and friends, of Lcpl. Ochoa, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to carry on. Just as you were always with him when he was deployed overseas, know that he will always be with you wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Lcpl. Ochoa was a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Lcpl. Ochoa the flag of the United States of America has your blood sewn into the fabric; it shall wave forever in your honor.

Freedom requires sacrifice the protected will never know.

Follow The Rainbow To Heaven.
=======================================

A Soldier had die out on the
battlefield;

Broken hearts are weeping For
Them,

But take comfort of knowing
that God had sent Them a
rainbow from heaven;

The Souls of the Soldiers
have gone to there home
in heaven,

Our Loved One's has follow
God's lovely rainbow in the
sky;

All the way to the end of the
sky.

That leads all the way to the
other end of the Lord's
house in heaven,

So just keep on praying and
trust that God will send us
that same rainbow in the sky;

Where Our Loved One's are
waiting For You and For Me at
the end of the rainbow in
heaven.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to LCpl Alfonso Ochoa our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Alfonso. And to Alfonso it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Alfonso, you are a brave Marine Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,353 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Alfonso’s family and loved ones. Semper Fi !
