Hermance Durbois Obituary

Hermance Jeanette (Cousineau) Durbois, of Hartford, Simsbury and Waterford, entered into the joy of her salvation with her Lord and Savior Jesus, on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. She was born in St. Lazare, Canada on March 23, 1917, moved to Montreal in her early childhood, lived in Hartford for over 75 years before moving to Simsbury. Hermance was predeceased by Nap, her husband of 57 years. They worked together at Durbois Beauty Salon in the Parkville neighborhood. For 39 years, they kept the neighbors well groomed and occasionally did special orders such as removing paint from the hair of a little boy and repairing another little boy's do-it-yourself haircut. Hermance was an active member of our Lady of Sorrows Church, Secretary of les Dames Francais and the Parkville Senior Center for many years. She will be dearly remembered for her kindness to everyone; a true reflection of God's love. Hermance is survived by her children, Robert J. Durbois and his wife Judy of Simsbury, Paul G. Durbois of Barkhamstead, Michele Durbois of Hamden and Rene Durbois and his wife Kathleen of Canton; her grandchildren Robert M. and his wife Alison, Matthew J. and his wife Laurie, Shayla C. and Josiah S. Durbois; her 6 great grandsons, Caleb, Oliver, Gabriel, Bennett, Caden and Weston Durbois; her sister Marguerite Denis, sisters in law, Margot Cousineau and Jacqueline Cousineau, all of Canada and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her parents Robertine (Pilon) and Josaphat Cousineau, her sister Gilberte Bouffard, her brothers Bruno and Fernand, her brothers in law Marcel Denis and Lt. Col. Clement Bouffard and many relatives in Montreal and Quebec. Her viewing will be held at 8:30 to 9:45 AM on Saturday, February 22 at Fisette-Batzner Funeral Home, at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 79 New Park Avenue, Hartford. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. In memory of Hermance, please perform an act of kindness or make a financial donation to a charity of your choice.
