Nancy Nevers Obituary

NEVERS, Nancy C. Nancy C. Nevers, 79, passed away at her home in Mansfield, on Wednesday (November 12, 2008). Beloved wife of Thomas Nevers, Nancy was born on Aug. 26, 1929 in Waterbury, to May and William Champagne. As a young girl, her talent in fine art became evident and was encouraged and developed. Over the years she studied with several master painters and her work was exhibited throughout New England. Despite her huge talent, Nancy's greatest desire was to marry and have a family. She met and married Tom Nevers, the love of her life, on June 26, 1948, and they have had 60 years together. While raising her family, Nancy returned to school and received a Bachelor of Arts from Eastern Connecticut State University in 1969 and a Master of Arts from University of Hartford in 1973. Nancy taught Art in the Mansfield Public School System, mainly at E.O. Smith High School until her retirement in 1994. While an extremely talented person, Nancy was perhaps best known and loved for her kind and gentle spirit. Always open and welcoming, she genuinely cared for others and made them feel accepted and loved. She will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched and improved. Nancy is survived by her husband Tom Nevers of Mansfield; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Douglas Fellows of Farmington; sons: Thomas Nevers of Mansfield and David Nevers of Brewster, MA. She was predeceased by her son John Nevers. Nancy is also survived by her grandchildren: Michael Fellows of Hagerstown, MD, Johnna Fellows Gluth and her husband Steven Gluth of New Haven, Nancy Fellows of Boylston, MA, Peter Fellows of Worcester, MA, Thomas "TJ" Nevers of Clinton, NY and Jeffrey Nevers of Brewster, MA. Nancy also leaves her dear friend and caretaker, MaryAnne Esidore of Scotland, CT, who is considered a part of the Nevers family. There will be no calling hours. A Funeral Mass for Nancy will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic with assembly at the church. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. Kindly omit flowers. Memorial donations are suggested to Salvation Army, P.O. Box 595, Willimantic, CT. 06226. Growing up with Tom, I was a frequent visitor to the Nevers home. Mrs Nevers always made me and Tom's friends feel welcome. My thoughts and prayers are with the Nevers family.

I remember Mrs. Nevers being paitient with my lack of artistic talent and interest. Which of course changed as I matured beyond my ignorant teen years.Anyway, I was sorry to hear of her passing. It makes you wonder where has the time gone?
