Barbara W. HART

HART, Barbara W. Barbara Weeks Hart, age 89, wife of George H. Hart of Old Saybrook, died on August 26, 2010. Barbara was born on December 4, 1920 in Longmeadow, Massachusetts to the late Kenneth Siebert Weeks and Kathryn (Adams) Weeks. She lived in Pittsfield Massachusetts, Mobile Alabama, Canandaigua and Rochester New York. She graduated from Pittsfield High School and then worked for General Electric's Engineering Department during World War II. After her marriage in 1949, she and her husband lived in Aurora Ontario Canada, Marblehead Massachusetts, and Middletown Connecticut where she worked in the Public Relations Department of Wesleyan University. Moving to Essex in 1956, she was a past President and Life Member of the Essex Garden Club. In 1978, they moved to Old Saybrook and joined the Old Saybrook Historical Society where she edited their newsletter for 14 years. She was also a volunteer driver for the Cancer Society and delivered Meals On Wheels. Besides her husband of 61 years, she leaves her sisters Helen Moore of Sea Island, Georgia, Dorothy Lutts of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, her brother Kenneth Weeks and his wife of Darien, Connecticut as well as 8 nieces and nephews, and their spouses and children. A private burial service will be held at Cypress Cemetery in Old Saybrook. Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston post Road, Old Saybrook is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Forgotten Felines, 153 Horsehill Road, Westbrook, CT, Valley Shore Animal League, 647 Horsehill Road, Westbrook, CT or to the Old Saybrook Historical Society.
