Shirley Penfield Obituary

PENFIELD, Shirley (Hess) Shirley (Hess) Penfield, 82, of Southington, passed away Saturday (November 8, 2008) surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Meriden on March 2, 1926 the daughter of the late Raymond P. and Gladys (Taylor) Hess. Shirley was a 1943 Graduate of Meriden High School. She was a former member of the First Congregational Church of Meriden and enjoyed performing in many drama productions of the church's drama group, called "The Merry Mates". She was a long time member of the First Congregational Church of Southington and especially enjoyed singing in the Senior Choir. Shirley recently attended her 65th Class Reunion of Meriden High School. She is survived by her loving children, Carol P. Pollock and husband H. James of Westford, MA, Pamela J. Pawlowski and husband Edmund of Plymouth, MA, and Kenneth G. Penfield Jr. and wife Jessica of Southington, 7 cherished grandchildren, Geoffrey Pawlowski and wife Shanan, Timothy Pawlowski and wife Amanda, Andrew Pawlowski, Benjamin Pollock, Alexandra Pollock, USMC LCPL Nathaniel Penfield and Justin Penfield, a brother Robert Hess of Niantic, a sister Sally Harwood of South Norwalk. The family would like to thank Dr. James Hoffman and his staff and also the hospice staff of The VNA of Central CT for their loving care and attention. The Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 37 Main St., Southington. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden. Family and Friends may call at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Donations may be made in her memory to the First Congregational Church of Southington Senior Choir, 37 Main St. Southington, CT 06489. I'm so sorry to hear about your Mother's death. I will always remember the good times we had at the beach and of course on New Year's Eve.

So sorry to hear about your mothers passing. We all have great memories of her from the "old" neighborhood on Kiefer Rd. She was a real lady and a great neighbor.
