Wayne Potvin Obituary

Wayne Potvin, 60, of Colchester and formerly of Rocky Hill, passed away Thursday evening, (April 28, 2016), at Yale New Haven Hospital after a sudden illness. Born in New Britain, he was a son of the late Lionel and Stella (Smoluk) Potvin. He married his beloved wife, Holly Norris in 1984. Wayne retired in 2011 after a distinguished career as an Officer with the West Hartford Police. Wayne was an avid outdoorsman and conservationist who enjoyed working on his property with his dogs, Pete and Lady by his side. He was active in his community, most notably supporting the Colchester Rotary Club. Wayne was many things to many people, but most importantly, he will be remembered by his family as a devoted and loving husband and father and an adoring grandfather. In addition to his wife Holly of 32 years, survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Michele Roe of Wallingford; his precious grandchildren, Lucas and Ella Roe; a brother, Jeffrey Potvin of Arkansas; two sisters, Debra Potvin Repscher of Middletown, Tammy Potvin of Southington; a niece, Dawn Parris of Middletown and numerous extended family and friends. Memorial calling hours will be held on Monday, May 2nd from 5 - 7 pm at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester. All other services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Colchester Land Trust, PO Box 93, Colchester, CT 06415. www.auroramccarthymccarthyfuneralhome.com

Dear Holly,
We are so very sad to learn of the loss of your dear Wayne. He was always so kind to us and extremely instrumental in connecting us with the appropriate state police officer when we were delivering quilts to the families after Sandy Hook. We couldn't have managed without his help.
Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Holly, I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Wayne through the quilt group. What a nice guy. Brought our pizza and sat and ate with us (bringing the dogs of course)....so they could have the crust.. I know so many people will miss his presence. Loving thoughts to you and your family as you deal with this tremendous heart break.

The years have gone by, but it seems like yesterday that we were 16-18 years old out driving around in his Roadrunner having a great time. A lot of fond memories of Wayne that time does not erase. Rest in peace Wayne, my heart goes out to your family.

So Sad to hear this news-
Wayne was one of the most entertaining guys I ever knew on the WHPD. He always had great stories, and most of all Any time I had him on a scene he was thoroughly dependable. We were just talking about him at our retirement party on Thursday night. I will always smile when I think of him. He couldn't tell a story without waving his arms...:) Great guy-
My Deepest condolences for your loss.

Dear Holly, On behalf of the girls at Cuts Unlimited, please accept our sincere condolences for the loss of your beloved husband, Wayne. He was such a happy, charismatic gentleman and so full of life. His stories of his grandbabies were beautiful and truly reflected the love that he had for them. And, of course....the dogs....his sidekicks! He will be missed.
