RIP my childhood friend.....

Donald Tanner

January 5, 2012

I will turn 50 in April, and one of my happiest childhood memories is of The Hap Richards Show and when my brother Grant and I became "citizens of Joyville." When we got our letter and certificates, I asked my mom "Does this mean that since we are citizens of Joyville now, Grant and me dont have to clean our room anymore?" Mom is almost 73, but still teases me about that! Rest in Peace my dear friend from childhood, and thanks ever so much for the memories.

PS: does anyone know of any video of the old show that exists? Please let me know.

Dear Donna, Denise and family - How happy I was to be on the "Hap Richards Show" and to become a citizen of Hapville! Then, we moved to Wethersfield (1961), I met his (your) family; his daughter Donna became one of my closest friends! How he "survived" in a house of 4 females, including their girl friends stopping in, often unannounced, is a testament to his calm manner and beautiful heart. What an example - a beloved, easy-going man who served as a role model for young children. May he rest in peace; he touched so many lives - what a legacy!
Sincerely, Judy (Carrier) Igielski

I'm saddened to learn of "The Mayor's" passing. My mother wouldn't let me write to him when I was a kid. I tried to contact to see if it was too late to be voted a citizen of Joyville but I guess he wasn't well enough to answer. My sympathy to his family and all the citizens of Joyville. As someone posted, all the flags of Joyville are at half-mast.

To Denise & Donna;
I happened upon the notice of your Dad's passing and had to let you know that I was thinking of you. We were all friends in Wethersfield and I rarely missed the Hap Richards show. I like to think I was a better person because of him. (Although my parents may not have agreed!)

Sincerely;

I am so sorry for your loss. The Ranger Station was one of my best memories when I was young. The most exciting time was actually being on the show!! You will be missed by "children" of all ages whose lives were touched by "Hap" Richards.

I was so sorry to hear of Floyd's death. I worked with him for many years at WTIC, and spent a lot of time with him and Petey driving to and from games UCONN all over New England. Joyville has lost one of its finest citizens!

I'm sure that Floyd is already having a great conversation with Coach Frank Leahy about the upcoming season for the Fighting Irish that he loved. He was a terrific human being, and a great Notre Dame man. My condolences to your family, but know that those whose lives were touched by Floyd are the lucky ones.

Hap was such a part of my childhood....so sad to read of his passing. The family should take solace in knowing that he had such an impact on so many of us...he will not soon be forgotten.
Respectfully,
