Hans ZIMMER Obituary

ZIMMER, Hans Hans Zimmer, 69, of Ivoryton passed away at his home Sunday evening surrounded by his family. Born in Germany, son of Irmatraud (Geiger) Zimmer of Germany and the late Hans Zimmer, he emigrated to the U.S. in 1981 where he spent his life as a Master Shipwright working at Pilots Point. Hans is survived by his wife Anke (Schnoor) Zimmer of Ivoryton, his daughter Brigitta Zimmer of Middletown, as well as his mother, and sister Gudaun Wild both of Germany. His family will gather privately to honor his wishes of scattering his ashes at sea. Arrangements by Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, Centerbrook.

Hans and his family were close friends of ours when Hans was rebuilding "Flicka" in St.Lucia and he was a joy to watch work. I well recall him making up a complete wooden mast for "Flicka" at the bayside in Castries Harbour where we both shared moorings. A really great guy.

Hans was a treasure found when I first met him three years ago. My 1957 Rhodes designed yawl was built in Germany near where Hans used to go to school. He would cut through the yard on his way. He was an excellent fellow and a true craftsman.

Dear Anke,
I met Hans years ago and worked with him on several projects, with respect from day one. We also met one day when Hans called for the coin to be placed on the step, when one grand old lady received her new mast. He was a good man and I felt privileged knowing him. He will be missed.

Sincere condolences. Fred Leonard, Boston

He was always willing to share his knowledge with me when I first started there and even after leaving it was always great to see him and have a chat about work or life in general. He was an awesone guy and a pleasure to be around and I will miss him.

Anke,
Hans was an inspiration to many around him. In my time at PPM it was my privlidge to work with him. He and I had the pleasure to stand toe to toe many times. We were always able to resolve it, laugh and have a beer. I had great respect for him both personally and professionaly. In the end he always shoed that his heart was solid gold. Best wishes,
