It is with deep deep sadness that I learn of Phil's passing. For over 2 decades I have personally benefited by his wisdom, appreciated his perspective, enjoyed his wit, and cherished his friendship. The house of Emergency Medicine, the citizens of Connecticut, and the entire EMS family have lost a treasured resource, a unique and distinguished physician, and stalwart keystone of our EMS system whose presence was often taken for granted. A visionary during Emergency Medicine's infancy, Phil always understood, supported, encouraged and helped guide the emergence and maturing of our specialty, always mindful of what was right and best. He championed the cause for EMS with a strength matched only by his gentleness & humility. His integrity and unquestioned character caused many of us to consider him a role model, and proud to regard him as one of our Emergency Medicine leaders and representatives. I consider myself fortunate & honored to have been his colleague and proud to say we worked together. His passing will leave a void that can never be filled. I regret not having the opportunity to say goodbye in person my friend. Phil, I will miss you.

I had the pleasure to know Phil through his fine work with the State EMS system. Phil was always a voice of reason with a personable and intelligent perspective on any pithy problem that was on the plate at a given moment. He added a great deal and we shall all miss his wit and committment. Ian Cummings, Putnam, CT.

For the basics in life there are the 3 R's, with Dr. Stent he lived the 3 W's: Wit, Wisdom and Willingness. His witty humor, his vast wisdom in regards to both in-hospital and prehospital care and his genuine willingness to pursue what needed to be done will truely be missed by the both the ED and EMS communities! We'll miss you Dr. Stent!

Dr. Stent was a huge supporter of EMS in general, but especially of the Paramedics working in the field. He sure had a lot of wisdom. I remember him saying to me one time: "...just because we can do something, doesn't mean that we should." You can still apply that concept to many aspects of EMS! Those sure will be tough shoes to fill... God Bless you Dr. Stent

Phil Stent epitomized what is good in an Emergency Physician. He was caring, compassionate, competent, knowledgeable, interested and interesting. I will always remember him best for his unbelievable patience and diplomacy in creating a statewide trauma system for Connecticut; without him, we likely still would not have one. Thanks, Phil, for all the good memories. You were a great role model.
