Kenneth D. AREY

AREY, Kenneth D. Kenneth Duncan Arey, age 87, of Manchester, CT. died on May 8, 2011 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was born in Templeton, MA on Nov 16, 1923, son of the late Harold C. Arey, M.D. and Jean G. (McIntosh) Arey, M.D. and was a 1942 graduate of Gardner High School. He was an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Air Force from March 1943 to Feb. 1946. He attended Coburn Classical Prep School in Waterville, Maine for 18 months. He graduated from Wentworth Institute in Boston in 1949. He worked at General Electric in Fitchburg, MA for four years and at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in E. Hartford for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Church of Christ, 595 Tolland Turnpike Manchester. He was a resident of Manchester for 55 years. He was an avid woodworker for the past 50 years and received awards for his wooden bowls that he sold at craft fairs for many years. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eleanor Bruce Arey; his son Bruce Arey and wife Debra of N. Grafton, MA, his daughter Martha Karlak and husband Michael of Seymour, Ct; his sister Charlotte Hoppe of Avon, CT; seven grand children, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by sisters, Marjorie O'Connor, Barbara Ambler and brother, Philip Arey. Family and friends may call Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 13, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Christ 595 Tolland Turnpike Manchester. Burial will follow with military honors in Rose Hill Memorial Park Rocky Hill, CT. In place of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor choice or the Church of Christ.
