RICKARD, R. Barry R. Barry Rickard, beloved husband for 36 years of Mary Rickard, died peacefully at Hartford Hospital on Friday, (September 30, 2005) after a short illness. Barry was born in Sharon, PA on March 1, 1939, the son of the late Evelyn and Herschel Rickard and grew up in Pennsylvania and Ohio. He attended MIT and Boston University and held graduate degrees from George Washington University, Johns Hopkins University and the University of Hartford. He was an Aetna Life and Casualty retiree and in his retirement he enjoyed working part-time for H. & R. Block as an income tax preparer and volunteering his accounting expertise to several organizations, including Project Excel, Inc., Meriden Public Schools scholarship organization. Barry served in the U.S. Army as a Russian language specialist in the mid 1960's. In addition to his devoted wife, Barry is survived by his loving mother-in-law, Jennie Chulack of Sarver, PA, who enjoyed watching him make his many layered sandwiches and helping him can his special salsa; his brothers-in-law, Charles Chulack of Sarver, PA, Peter G. Chulack and his wife, Mary of Windham, NH; two nieces, Michele Rogers and Renee Platte and their husbands who reside in California; and seven other nieces and nephews and their children. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. Interment will be in Pennsylvania at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to Project Excel, Inc., c/o O.H. Platt High School, 220 Coe Ave., Meriden, CT 06451. We were good friends of Barry & Mary in Maryland. John worked with Barry at Westinghouse, was Best Man at their Wedding in Baltimore MD in the 1960's & remembers that he was well-liked & respected by all.
He will be missed.
