Loren Sefton Obituary

DECATUR - Loren "Joe" Sefton, 85, of Decatur, IL passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at his home. A service to celebrate Joe's life will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 19, in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Mechem officiating and military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery in Brownstown, IL. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, evening, January 18, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, Decatur, IL. Joe was born March 3, 1925, in Fayette County, Brownstown, IL, the son of George and Hazel Sefton. He married Donna (Sigmon) Sefton on October 17, 1954. Joe was in the US Army during WWII stationed in the Pacific Theater. He worked for Wabash (Norfork & Southern) Railroad for 14 years where he was a President of Local 542 Railroad and Steamship Clerks. He was manager of York Radio & TV for 25 years and after retirement he worked 14 years for the Millikin (Magna, Regions) Bank and was a delivery driver for area auto dealers. His volunteer work included GM Square, the KONO RSVP Program, and local and state fishing programs for urban children. Joe was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, field trials, fishing, gardening, and training hunting dogs, which he received many trophies and awards for over the years. He shared his love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna, daughter Beverly (Michael) Kraus of Decatur, IL, son Loren (Tina Tackaberry) of Decatur, IL, Grandchildren; Shannon (Heather) Kraus of Glen Echo, MD, Justin Kraus of Decatur, IL, Allison Kraus of Miami, FL. and twin Great-Grandsons Zachary and Aaron Kraus of Glen Echo, MD. Brothers; Kilburn (Jean) Sefton of Vandalia, IL, Darrell Sefton of Mesa, AZ, Maurice (Sue) Sefton of Forsyth, IL, Sisters; Georgeanna Ragsdale of Decatur, IL, Marilyn McCammack of Decatur, IL and Faye (Bob) Schwarm of Loogootee, IL He is preceded in death by his parents and toddler sister Lea Ellen. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Dr. Aker, Dr. Heim, Wendy, Angie, Sandy, Devlin, Leita, and DMH Hospice for all of their care and support. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband/father. I know there are no words to comfort you at this time. I just wanted to let you know, that I'm sure there is a fellow hunter that will be waiting for him at Heaven's gate. His name would be George Ferguson. I, his daughter, Cathy, remeber Mr. Sefton, Kate,[his hunting dog] and family with fond memories. You are all in my prayers
