Dwight Sullivan Obituary

SULLIVAN, DWIGHT, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 after a long and happy life. Born in 1923 in New York, New York, Dwight, known as "Bud", grew up in Scarsdale, New York. He graduated from Philips Exeter Academy and went on to attend Princeton University where he was a member of Cannon Club and the Press Club. He left Princeton during his sophomore year to enlist in the Army Air Corps serving as a pilot during World War II stationed in Panama. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain and returned to Princeton where he graduated with honors in 1947 but assigned to the Class of 1945. He went on to attend Harvard Law School. Upon graduation from Harvard Law School in 1950, he took the road less travelled to Florida and began his law career with the law firm of Landis, Fish, Hull & Whitehair. Several years later, he moved to Miami to join the law firm of Steele, Hector, and Davis where he was a partner for many years before going into private practice. A member of the New York and Florida Bar Associations, he served on various committees throughout the years and on the Board of the Coconut Grove Civic Club. He lived in Coconut Grove for sixty-four years and was a member of Plymouth Church and the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club. He loved the outdoors, reading, and spending time with his family. He will be fondly remembered for his gentle spirit, sense of humor, unfailing graciousness, and ability to tell a great story! Predeceased by his parents, John Dwight Sullivan and Evelyn Houghton Sullivan, his son Thomas Lord Sullivan, and his brother Roger Houghton Sullivan; his wives Lucinda Gibson Sullivan, Joy Shaw Sullivan and Rosamond Morgan, he is survived by his daughter Katherine Sullivan Lindseth, her husband Andrew Lindseth, and their three children Anne, Caroline and Jay Lindseth.
