Roberta Schildmeyer Obituary

Roberta Ruth Schildmeyer, 74, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, in Medford, Ore.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Klamath Falls, Ore. on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at 1 p.m. The community is invited to the service to be held at the church located at North Sixth and Pine streets.
Mrs. Schildmeyer was born April 21, 1937, in Orange, Calif., to Robert and Ruth (Smith) Campbell, an Orange County pioneer family. She graduated in 1955 from Orange High School, where she was a life honor student and a senior class officer. She attended UCLA, majoring in home economics. While there, she was a member of Tri-Delta Sorority.
Roberta met Fred Schildmeyer, also of a well-established Orange County pioneering family, in Orange in 1957 on a blind date. They wed on Nov. 29, 1958. Fred and Roberta both came from successful orange-growing families and continued in the agricultural industry with citrus ranches in Villa Park, Camarillo, and Moore Park, Calif.
In 1965, they moved to Oregon and in 1970 to Klamath Falls, where they continued in the agricultural industry, but now working in cattle ranching and grain farming. They owned several ranches in the Willamette Valley and Klamath Basin.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, PEO, Republican Women, Roosevelt Elementary School PTA, Ponderosa Junior High School PTA and the Klamath Basin Garden Club.
Throughout her life, Mrs. Schildmeyer served in many capacities for a variety of nonprofits in the Klamath Basin, including The Salvation Army, Girl Scouts of America, First Presbyterian Church and was one of the founding members of the local chapter of the National Assistance League.
On Oct. 1, 1986, Mrs. Schildmeyer and 12 of her friends organized the Klamath Basin National Assistance League. The local chapter has been very successful during the years with establishing fundraising programs, including the Christmas Tree Jubilee, Silver Tea and the Findables Used Furniture and Decor shop on East Main Street in Klamath Falls. Due to the funds raised, the Klamath Basin NAL has been able to provide for two very worthy programs in the community - Family In Crisis and Operation School Bell.
Year to date, Operation School Bell has clothed over 7,000 children and teens. In 2005, their dream was fulfilled when teenagers were included in the program. OSB also started partnering with the Fred Meyer store in 2005 to provide the much-needed items for the teens. At the beginning of the school year, the program makes the opportunity available for kids in need to use Fred Meyer vouchers to acquire new clothing, winter coats, backpacks and other resources.
Survivors include her sister Alayne Campbell of Orange; daughters and sons-in-law Janice and Ray Cox of Medford and Mariann and Mike Eitzman of Granite Bay, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law Frederic and Kathleen Schildmeyer of Lake Oswego, Ore.; grandchildren Lauren and Marie Cox of Medford, Jonathan and Daniel Eitzman of Granite Bay, and Wolfgang Schildmeyer of Lake Oswego.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Assistance League of the Klamath Basin, 1330 E. Main St., Klamath Falls, OR 97601.

Janice, Frederic and Mariann,
I only briefly know you three but I did know your Mom and Dad, Roberta and Fred, and knew them as friends. Roberta had a wonderful "kind heart" and gave many hours of love and affection to the local community through a number of activities. Both were always proud of all three of you and spoke of you with pride and joy.
I've sort of followed your families and successes through the years through the eyes and hearts of your parents. And, you all are as solid citizens as your parents.
May you three have peace in your hearts with your Mom's passing, knowing they both no longer have "struggles", are at peace with the world and cared very deeply for you and your children. Sincerely,

Nancy Collins

Janice, Frederic, Mariann and all of your family,
I am so saddened to hear of Roberta's passing. She was an amazing woman that touched SO many hearts and lives.I have so many wonderful memories of growing up with all of you at Cove Point. The world might be a little darker without her, but I know for a fact that heaven is brighter! May God hold all of you in the palm of His hands as you heal.
Love,
Teri Starbuck

Please accept my sincere condolences. Roberta was one of my favorite people. I remember the big house in Villa Park where I would pick her up when we were dating. Then the family moved to Elizabeth Place next to my folks house. She was always beautiful with striking eyes. I last saw her at our 50th HS reunion. I will miss her.

I have wonderful memories of your Mom and Dad! They were both amazing people. Your Mom was the epitome of a lovely lady! The world is less bright with the loss of your Mom.
Hugs to you all!
