Martha Virginia Gethers July 25, 1932 – Dec. 22, 2009

ANDERSON — Martha Virginia (Stanley) Gethers passed away Dec. 22, 2009, at Community Hospital in Anderson after a long illness.

She was born July 25, 1932, to Charles William and Martha (Blackwell) Stanley. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1940.

Her parents; her husband, Galen Gethers; her son, Joseph Anthony "Tony" Haines; and her brother, Charles Clayton Stanley, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son, William Haines; her grandson, Lee Hasty, and her granddaughter, Desiree Haines, all of Anderson; her sister, Mary Anne (Stanley) Magnuson of Connecticut; and daughter-in-law, Karen Clark (Haines) of Anderson. Most of her life was devoted to the study of family history, preserving Indiana's pioneer cemeteries and Madison County pioneer history.

She was a member of Kikthawenund Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.

A memorial service mass will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Bob Williams officiating.

She will be buried with her son "Tony" in East Maplewood Cemetery in the Stanley Family plot.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Arrangements are being handled by Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.

Mary,Billy,Lee,and Desiree,

I am so sorry to read this.I was just up to visit Martha a few weeks ago,and had no idea this was coming.She kept saying I need to get better,everyone needs me.And I had no doubt she would.Martha was a strong woman,and I have no doubt she's in Heaven telling them what they are doing wrong.God Bless you all.

Mary, William, Lee and Desiree im so sorry for the loss of Martha. I know this has been a difficult time losing Tony and now Martha. You know I loved them both and will miss them. Just know that im here for you and you will always be in my heart. You are a part of my family and always will be.
