Richard Melvin Obituary
Mr. Melvin was born Nov. 30, 1937 in Harpers Ferry, Iowa the son of Leonard and Mary Estelle (Martel) Melvin. Richard married the love of his life, Mary Ann Spencer, March 19, 1974 in Denison, Texas. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. He worked for Johnson and Johnson for 29 years before retiring. Richard loved camping, fishing, road trips and telling stories. But most of all he loved his family, especially the grandchildren. He cherished the time spent with them all. Richard will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Mr. Melvin is survived by his beloved family, wife of 37 years, Mary Melvin of Denison, Texas; sons, Raymond Dawson and wife, Mindy of Arlington, Texas, Royce Dawson and wife, Lorie of Denison, Carl Dawson and wife, Angie of Denison and Chris Dawson of Bells, Texas; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister Shirley LaRoche of Pottsboro, Texas; brother, Bill Melvin and wife, Ana Jean of Washington; sisters-in-law, Elsie Melvin of Denison, and Phyllis Melvin of Tuscan, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Jim Melvin and Jack Melvin and brother-in-law, Jerry LaRoche.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 at Fisher Funeral Home with Brother Doug Grissom officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, located at 604 W. Main in Denison.

Richard was a good friend in high school. I had several classes with him and loved his sense of humor. Having read his obituary, it is obvious Richard had a full life with a wonderful wife and children. That is such a successful life and none can wish for more. My sympathy to his loving family.

My prayers go with the entire Melvin families. It is with great love and fondness that I have been recalling all the great times we shared at St. Xaviers, DHS and after school making the Drag.
