Alfred Liddiatt Obituary

Alfred Liddiatt

Alfred Liddiatt was born May 11, 1933 in Regina, SK to Clifford and Laura Liddiatt and passed away on April 25, 2011 in Snohomish, WA.
He married his loving wife, Betty-Ann Soros, on November 30, 1963 in Des Plaines, IL. He retired from GTE (Verizon) after 26 years of devoted service. After retirement he went to work at Work Opportunities for five years. Alfred was a 42 year member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Everett. He enjoyed volunteering there especially as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector, Monday Night Rosary Group, Legion of Mary, St. Vincent de Paul, Serra Club and the Everett Sausage Fest which he volunteered at for over 30 years. Alfred cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time with his many friends, saying the rosary, playing cribbage, traveling to the family cabin at Birch Bay each Summer, crabbing and a good meal.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Betty-Ann Liddiatt; children, Laura (Keith), Nels (Tina) and Erik (Missy); sister, Pamela Bonthoux; special sister-in-law, Swanhild Solchany; grandchildren, Sarah, Andy, Sally, Grace, Madison and Markus. Alfred will also be deeply missed by his faithful canine companion of 13 years, Molly.
He was preceded in death by both parents; brother, David Liddiatt; and sister, Phyllis Liddiatt.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staffs at both Bethany at Pacific and Emeritus at Snohomish for the wonderful care and compassion they gave Alf in his final days.
A memorial mass celebrating Alfred's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 2617 Cedar St., Everett. There will also be a rosary at the church commencing at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank, 2619 Cedar St., Everett, WA 98201; Sky Valley Food Bank, P.O. Box 724, Monroe, WA 98272; or Hospice of Snohomish County, 2731 Wetmore, Suite 500, Everett, WA 98201.

Shared many great memories with Alf and Betty-Ann while visiting my brother who was a neighbour in Birch Bay. So many great times and memories with one of the kindest, most positive people you could ever meet. He will be dearly missed. Our deepest condolences to Betty Ann and the family.

I worked with Alf at GTE/Verizon and can say he always found the positive in everyone. A very kind and generous person and a joy to work for. My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones.

On behalf of the staff and participants of Work Opportunities, I would like to express words of comfort to Alf's family as well as express our thoughts of Alf. Alf gave new definition to the words "generous and thoughtful" and he will forever be a part of our agency. Although Alf retired from Work Opportunities many years ago, it didn't stop him from continuing to be an integral part of our lives. Each year since retiring he found a way to make the Christmas season more meaningful and special for the indiviudals with developmental disabilites that we support. Even during his sickness, Alf never let a Christmas pass where he didn't provide gifts, and other wonderful Holiday treats to nearly 50 individuals with developmental disabilites. Words can't express adequately enough how much his kindness touched so many lives and how much we will miss our "Christmas Alf".
