Ernest A. McGraw, 85, of Venice, FL, formerly of Youngsville, PA, died on Mar. 28, 2013. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Fri., Apr. 5, 2013 at Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Youngsville, PA. Services will be held at 12:00 PM on Sat., April 6, 2013 at Saron Lutheran Church in Youngsville, PA 16371. Funeral arrangements by: Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
He was born April 5, 1927 in Triumph Township, Warren County, PA, the son of Robert E. McGraw and Mary B. Martin McGraw. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Veronica B. McGraw Crockett.
Ernie was a 1944 graduate of Youngsville High School and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European and Pacific Theater of Operations and the Korean War, with the U.S. Navy. He started his own business, Pittsfield Construction Inc. in 1955. He built bridges and roads in Pennsylvania and expanded to Florida in 1976, closing the Pennsylvania business fully in 1980. The company built many bridges and water structures in the state of Florida. He retired in 2008 at the age of 81.
He was the mayor of Youngsville, PA from 1964 to 1976. He was also a member of the Youngsville borough Council and the Saron Lutheran Church of Youngsville.
Ernest is survived by his wife, Alice M. Brown McGraw of Venice, FL, whom he married on May 28, 1949, his daughter, Rhonda K. McGraw Glotz of Englewood, FL, his grandson, Michael C. Glotz of North Port, FL, a great- granddaughter, Taiber L. Glotz of Gainesville, FL, a great-grandson, Hunter R. Glotz of North Port, FL and several nieces and nephews and many friends
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Saron Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 182 Youngsville, PA 16371, or to a charity of choice. Condolences to the family may be made at www.nelsonfuneralhome.net
