Alstead Philo Cady, 93, of Sarasota, formerly of Colchester, Conn., died Dec. 14, 2009.
Memorial services are private. Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his son, Alstead H. of Sarasota; a daughter, Dawn Swain of Sarasota; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his son-in-law, Mark Swain.
He was born in East Providence, R.I., in 1915.

Just to let you know, it did my heart good to hear your resonant and full Rhode Island voice every time that we greeted each other. I'll miss our time together and discussions on every topic that you were always well-versed in. Your honesty, integrity and old-school ways will always be cherished.
