Ray Hulet Obituary

Ray Hulet passed away at home in Smithfield, Utah, on March 27, 2011, after a brief fight with pancreatic cancer.
Ray Hulet was one of a set of twins born to John Silas and Nancy Elva Hunt Hulet. He was born March 16, 1923, at Provo, Utah, the fourth of six children. His early childhood was spent at Peterson, in Morgan County, Utah, and his high school days in Rockland, Power County, Idaho. Upon graduation from high school, he entered college at Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah, later transferring to the University of Idaho at Moscow.
With World War II well under way, Ray interrupted his schooling and volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army. After 26 months of service in the Pacific theater, he was honorably discharged at the close of the war. This was followed by a call to the Central Pacific Mission where he labored with the Japanese people in the Hawaiian Islands for two years. In January 1949, Ray re-enrolled at the University of Idaho where he graduated in June 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in agriculture.
While attending the U. of I., he met Lorraine Lundquist, and they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Nov. 23, 1949. Six children blessed their union. Currently, he has 34 grandhcildren, 26 great-grandchildren and four in the "cooker!"
After college graduation, Ray was employed by the Pet Milk Company as a field representative and later entered into plant management as a supervisor and then as plant superintendent. He worked for Pet for 17 years, but his employment was terminated by a closure of the company's processing plant at Richmond, Utah, where he had been assigned.
From 1971 to 1989 Ray was employed by the Utah Department of Agriculture as a food compliance officer in the Department of Food and Consumer Services. He worked in Northern Utah until his retirement in September 1989.
Ray and his family lived in southern Idaho and Northern Utah, nearly 40 of those years spent in Smithfield.
Ray was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of his life, and served in many different positions. While living at Richmond, he spent eight years as counselor in the bishopric of the Richmond Ward. He served in Smithfield Third Ward as financial clerk, executive secretary, ward activities chairman, Gospel doctrine teacher, stake auditor, High Priests' group leader and temple patron.
When the Logan LDS Temple was remodeled and rededicated in 1979, Ray was called and set apart as an officiator at the temple baptistry, where he served one evening each week until he and his wife, Lorraine, were called on a mission in 1990. They served for 18 months in the Philippines Baguio Mission. In 1996, Ray and Lorraine were called and set apart as ordinance workers in the Logan LDS Temple where they served until released early in 2008.
Ray loved the outdoors and traveling. Growing a large vegetable garden and keeping the yard well maintained brought him great pleasure. He loved traveling with his wife across the United States and to many foreign destinations.
Ray is survived by his wife, Lorraine; daughter, Diane (Ron Daly, Jr.) of San Jose, Calif; and five sons, Dennis (Debbie) of Snohomish, Wash.; Gary (Dorinda) of Winter Springs, Fla.; Rodney (Connie) of Upland, Calif.; Donald (Kaysee) of Bountiful, Utah; and Carl (Shanna) of Sugar Land, Texas; 34 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. His twin sister, Fae Moss, is still living.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, March 31, 2011, in the Smithfield 11th Ward chapel, 79 E. 200 South in Smithfield. Friend may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Nelson Funeral Home in Smithfield, 85 S. Main St., and from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com.
With many people suffering around the world, the family respectfully requests donations, in lieu of flowers, to the LDS Humanitarian Services.

Lorraine and Family,

I want to you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. I have often thought about you and Ray over the past several weeks. I remember Ray's example of church service in the temple and of his love for his family. It has been too long since I've seen Don, Carl, and other cousins and relatives. I hope that you will all find comfort in the arms of family and friends over the coming weeks and months, as well as comfort through the Holy Ghost, the Comforter. I am reminded of a scripture I recently read, "and those who died in the faith of Christ are happy in him, as we must needs suppose (Alma 46:41)." I wish to express my sorrow for your loss, and also my hope and faith that you will one day be reunited.

Dear Sister,
Gene and I, our 4 kids and their families have been touched by the example that Ray has set for service in the Lord's Church. The dedication that both of you have shown us teaches us all more of the Plan of Salvation. We want you to know of our love for you, to share our feelings of sympathy and condolence and to encourage you to spend some time with your family away. Then, when you come back home just remember all the love and happy moments that ring in every corner.
Love Karen and Gene

Dear Lorraine,
What a wonderful man Ray was.
My good memories of you is you taught me how to study a lesson the Sunday before it was to be given. I've used that always.
Warren passed away in Oct 09 from lung cancer.
We moved to Meridian ID to be near family in 07.
I have had a granddaughter living with me since Warren passed away. She will graduate in May as a Pharmasist and will be moving to Murray UT to work for WalMart.
Just want you to know that you and Ray were/are such examples of good for us.
God bless you!
Love,
Carma Hamp
