JoAnn Gunnell Obituary
She was born Nov. 5, 1934, in East Garland, Utah, and was the 11th of 11 children born to Larkin Richard and Dora Woods Shaffer.
JoAnn married Dean Gunnell on Sept. 2, 1955, in Garland, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1993.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, belonging to the Brigham City 14th Ward.
JoAnn was a wonderful cook famous for her homemade bread and rolls, and she enjoyed sharing her talents with her family and friends. JoAnn was very close with her large family and stayed involved in their lives, always doing many thoughtful things to brighten their days. She also enjoyed spending time keeping in touch with her many lifelong friends.
Surviving are three children, Larry Gunnell, Brigham City; Christine Hardister, North Ogden; DeAnn (Steve) Massengale, Pleasant View; five grandchildren, Tyson (Mindy) Massengale, Kelly (Arlene) Malan, Skyler (Amanda) Massengale, Joanna (Steve) Allred, Ryley Massengale, and was "Grandma GG" to 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Jasper (Janice) Shaffer, Garland; Don (Barta) Shaffer, Logan; one sister, Iva Godfrey, Riverside, 21 beautiful nieces and 20 handsome nephews. She is also survived by her loving companions, Angel and Jodie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four sisters, Vera, Effie, Carmen, Lenna, three brothers, Vern, Kenny, Ned, and one great-grandson, Trajan Malan.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to the American Cancer Society, 941 E. 3300 South, Salt Lake City, UT, 84106.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Brigham City 14th LDS Ward Chapel, 650 Anderson Drive, Brigham City, Utah.
Family will greet friends on Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 E. 200 South, Brigham City, Utah, and on Thursday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
