Leigh Marvin Bertness Obituary

Leigh Marvin Bertness, 72, a native of Ortonville, Minnesota, and a resident of Houma, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Samart Funeral Home of Houma. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday Nov. 17, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chauvin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Bertness; step-sons, Richard Nelton, Russell Nelton and wife Amy, Ricky Nelton and wife Peggy, David Nelton and wife Jackie, and Jesse Nelton and wife Monica; step-daughter Eloise "Teaty" Dupre and husband Steve; brother Dennis Bertness and wife Margaret "Margo"; numerous step-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Berntess; parents, Marvin O. Bertness and Winifred Pufahl; step-daughters, Betty Jean Nelton, Penny Ann LeBoeuf and Cindy Ann LeBoeuf; sister, Deanna Murray; step-grandchild, Angela Authement; and step-great-grandson, Caleb Nelton.

Samart Funeral Home of Houma is in charge of arrangements.
