Donald Chalmers Obituary
1935-2016
Dr. Donald L. Chalmers, 80, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2016.
Don was born on October 25, 1935 in Port Arthur, Texas. He attended Tulane University, The University of Texas Dental Branch and in 1966 graduated from the oral surgery residency program at The University of Texas Dental Branch, Houston.
Don entered the U.S. Naval Dental Corp. as a Lieutenant assigned to the U.S. Naval Hospital, Great Lakes. He was transferred from Great Lakes and was assigned to the U.S. Fleet Marine Force Atlantic as Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the base hospital and clinic. Upon release from the U.S. Navy he began his dental practice in Houston with Wayne H. Speer, D.D.S. who was his mentor and teacher.
In addition to his 20 year career as a dentist, he was a co-founder of two Houston area hospitals, Houston Northwest Medical Center and Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center.
Don was a husband, father, dentist, teacher, advisor, audiophile and gentleman extraordinaire. He will be remembered for his inquisitive mind, good humor, healthy living, strong spirit, and concern for others. He touched the lives of many sharing his business experience and advice.
In the winter of his life, Don found great love for the Lord, sharing his joy for life with everyone he came in contact with. His memory will shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.
Preceded in death by his parents, Walter Lee Chalmers and Gladys Bauerlein Chalmers. Don is survived by Bonnie Chalmers, son Robert Uher, daughter Diana Maust, grandsons Andrew Maust and Jackson Maust. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his unconditional love, kindness and service to others.
In Houston, friends are invited to a memorial service and reception at the Bradshaw-Carter Funeral Home, 1734 West Alabama, at ten o'clock in the morning on Saturday, July 30, 2016.

Our family is deeply saddened by the loss of such a wonderful man...who I proudly call my cousin. I have many fond memories of Donald growing up as a child.
He was such a wise man who never seemed to mind sharing his knowledge with anyone who asked for advice.
Those we hold closest to our hearts truly never leave us. They live on in the kindness they have shared and the love they brought into our lives. God bless you all.

I was one of Dr. Chalmers patients in 1976, when he performed surgery on my jaw. He did a fabulous job and I'm so sorry that I lost contact with him. Back then it was having my mouth wired shut for 8 weeks. I cried and cried but he so sweet and understanding. He made me realize how important it was for my healing and he wasn't going to do anything less. Dr. Chalmers was a brilliant surgeon. My particular surgery has come a long way. I feel Dr. Chalmers was a pioneer in his field. God bless him. My sympathies to his family.
