Lucy Carson Obituary

LUCY MATTHEWS BROWN CARSON passed away on the 10th of June 2009 in Houston, Texas. She was born and raised in Holly Springs, Mississippi, graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1942, taught in the Holly Springs schools, and married native Houstonian Philip R. Carson in 1952. Her interests included architecture, gardening and history. She was a Docent at Bayou Bend, was active in her church, the Pan American Round Table, the Southern Garden Club and other organizations, and was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America and the D.A.R. She is survived by her son, Philip B. Carson, her nieces Virginia Brown and Betsy Smith and her nephews H. Jack Brown, Russell Brown, Robert Chenoweth and Ashley Smith. The funeral service will be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning on Monday, the 15th of June, in the chapel of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston, with Rev. Linda Christians officiating. The interment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Glenwood Cemetery, 2525 Washington in Houston. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 147, Holly Springs, Mississippi, 38635 in her memory.
