Sarah Murphy Obituary

Murphy
Sarah Elizabeth (Grimes) Murphy died Saturday, Feb. 12, in Austin, Texas. She was born in Houston on Dec. 28, 1957, and was the youngest of the four children of Wm. O. and Ardath (Singletary) Grimes. Her sisters are Melissa of Austin, and Amy of Houston, and her brother is Wm. A. (Billy) of California. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Julie Murphy, who lives in North Shore.
Upon graduation from Memorial Senior High School in Houston Sarah attended Stephen F. Austin State University at Nacogdoches where she met her future husband, James Patrick Murphy, son of Doris and Jim Murphy of North Shore.
Pat & Sarah were married on April 17, 1982, at Chapelwood UM Church. They soon moved to Austin where they raised their family. Pat worked in the City Watershed Protection Department, and Sarah worked for 27 years at Anderson's Coffee Company, where she became a beloved coworker and friend to her fellow employees and customers.
Sarah and Pat have two boys, Ryan Patrick and Jack Warren. Ryan has graduated from High School, and Jack is finishing his sophomore year. In addition to those named above, Sarah is survived by 2 Aunts, 1 Uncle, 3 nieces, 2 Nephews, and 15 First Cousins.
Sarah suffered a 4 1/2 year battle with cancer. In late last December she was put on Hospice care and Pat's sister, Julie, came to stay with them and minister to Sarah as her condition cintinued to deteriorate.
Sarah's body will be cremated and Pat and her sons plan to scatter her ashes in the mountains near Santa Fe, New Mexico, where Sarah and her family spent many happy vacations. A permanent monument is also planned for Sarah.
A Memorial Service will be held in Austin in the next few weeks, and notice will be made when those plans are final.
Donations can be made to the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation in Sarah's memory."

Sarah was truly a shining light and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. The world is a lesser place without her bright smile and her unique way of making everyone feel at ease and included in her story.

Sarah will be missed every time I walk into Anderson's Coffees for sure. She was such an icon there. She was also a sweet and fun Jazzercize buddy years ago. So sorry and sad she had to depart so early.
