John Schiller Obituary

Schiller
John Daniel "JD" Schiller, of Houston, Texas, departed this life unexpectedly on Monday, the 28th February 2011, at 74 years of age. JD was born in Fort Bend County on the 22nd of October 1936 to father, Johnny Joe Schiller, and mother Liddie Mae Bravenec Schiller, who have both preceded him in death.
As a young man, JD collected a number of stock show ribbons. His favorite registered Jersey, which he won in the 1952 Houston Fat Stock Show, was Daisy whom he often talked about fondly. In 1955, JD graduated from Missouri City High School, and continued his education at Texas A&M University. He married his high school sweet heart, Jane Broughton, on the 21st of December 1956. After graduating in 1959 with an accounting degree and an Aggie ring he proudly wore, he began his career immediately with Humble Oil and Refining and remained with Exxon for 35 successful years.
JD was an active member of the community, and constantly gave his time volunteering. He filled his free time traveling and seeing new things, watching Aggie football, fishing, and spending time with his 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. JD is loved by an abundant family including nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Broughton Schiller; son, John Daniel Schiller, Jr. and wife Kristi; son, Mark Schiller; and daughter, Karen Schiller Shepherd and husband Troy. His sister, Pat Schiller Bono and husband Ben survive him as well. His grandchildren also survive him: John Daniel Schiller III and wife Veronica, Hailey Schiller Vickery and husband Carl, Nicole Shepherd, Susan Shepherd, Brittain Schiller, Sinclair Schiller; and a great granddaughter, Liddie Vickery.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 3rd of March, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The funeral service is to be conducted at half-past ten o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 4th of March, also in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, where Rev. Martin Kaufman, Pastor of Pilgrim Lutheran Church of Houston, is to officiate.
Honored to serve as pallbearers during the services are Daniel Schiller, Troy Shepherd, Don Broughton, William Broughton, James Vaccaro, and Scott Dunwoody.
The entombment is to follow, via an escorted cortege, at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, where taps are to be sounded by a corps bugler from the Texas A & M Corps of Cadets. Immediately following, all are invited to a reception in remembrance of JD at a venue to be announced at the service.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in Mr. JD's memory may be directed to the Pilgrim Lutheran School, 8601 Chimney Rock Rd., Houston, TX, 77096; or to the Salvation Army - Houston Area Command, 1500 Austin St., Houston, TX, 77002.

Schiller Family::
A wish for your hearts to be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

I worked with John at Exxon. Yes, he was a proud Aggie, but more importantly, he was a true gentleman with great integrity, wit, and humor.

Condolences to Mr. Schiller's family. As I began my career with Humble Oil, he was one of my earlier supervisors; we then moved on with the Exxon Card Center to Brookhollow. My fondest memory was when we had a celebration for my then supervisor, Mr. Gene Weeks. I last tried to contact John Schiller by e-mail to invite him to my retirement in 2005. May you all find comfort in our dear Lord and Savior.

To the Schiller family, I had the honor and pleasure of working with John at the Houston Credit Card Center in Brookhollow from 1978 until our retirements. John was a "straight shooter" who spoke his mind and a friend at the office. I recall fondly several hunting and fishing trips with John and other office friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. John surely loved Texas A & M and was very proud to have graduated from there.

Sincerely,
