Peter Lehnert Obituary

Peter Karl Lehnert was born May 13, 1938 in Rumburg, Germany.
He lived 73 eventful years, experiencing true pride in business, raising his children Natasha and Norman, exploring the world, and inspiring his grandchildren Lake and Heath McRee. He embraced Houston in 1962, where he established life long friendships and continued a prosperous career in the Steel Industry. Peter spoke 5 languages fluently and was extremely well versed in topics covering politics, history, music and current events. This fueled many long conversations, stories, and debates that he enjoyed with his closest friends and family often at his favorite restaurants throughout Houston.
After retiring, Peter pursued his lifelong passion of archaeological studies, focusing on Pre-Columbian and Mayan Art. He founded the Mesoamerican Heritage Institute in 1989, in which he compiled a database of biographical information on researchers of Mesoamerican history and archaeology. He also built an impressive library of books, magazines, and reprints on Pre-Columbian archaeology.
Peter Lehnert sadly passed away unexpectedly on May 6, 2012, one week before his 74th birthday. A private Memoriam was held on May 9, 2012. To quote one of Peter's closest friends Michael Schaefer, "We have lost a legend…"

I was very sorry to hear of Peter's death. To Natasha and Norman, I send you my belated condolences. As Michael said, he was indeed a legend.

Peter, I hope that you and Dietrich are philosophizing somewhere together.
