Joseph Bement Obituary

Joseph Ishwor Bement
1996-2017
Joseph Ishwor Bement
March 16, 1996 –
April 20, 2017
We remember Joseph as an extraordinary young man. He lit up our hearts with his megawatt smile, hugging everyone he met. He was happiest when helping others. He had a servant's heart, a generous spirit, and loved Bible stories, American history, rice, and chocolate. We are thankful for our time with this special earth angel. His death leaves a huge hole in our hearts and lives. He will be forever missed, even as we know he is with the Lord.
Joseph was born in Kathmandu, Nepal and brought to Mendies Haven Children's Home at age 3, where he first met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was there that his forever family met and fell in love with him, adopted him, and brought him home at age 6. He is survived by his family, Barbara Strobel and George Bement, Aaron, Aneela, and Danny Bement, and Mickey Strobel as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him fiercely. He is also survived by his many brothers and sisters in Nepal, all of whom loved him very much.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home 13001 Katy Freeway on Monday, April 24, 2017 from 5:00pm-7:00pm.
A memorial service will be held at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, 2450 River Oaks Blvd. on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 4:00pm
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to St. John the Divine World Mission-Nepal.

Dearest Barbara, George, and the Bement/Strobel family

Thank you for sharing Joseph with us over the past 15 years. He was truly a Godsend, infusing love, affection, and pure joy into our family. Our lives have been enriched from knowing and loving Joseph. Memories of times shared with Joseph are countless, making it impossible for us to encapsulate all that we feel and treasure in our hearts today. We have lost a son, and for Luke, a big brother, but we find solace in knowing that his faith has guided him into the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. May God keep him close always.

Our love and prayers are with you

It saddened my heart to hear this. Joseph was such a selfless, kind person. I am so grateful I was able to know him. I remember playing on the playground after church when we were kids. I will cherish those memories forever. Words are so hard to find at this time. I know he he is happy and at peace living with our Lord.

It was a shock to see Joseph's obituary. I saw the name and I was no, not the Joseph I know. I met Joseph in choir at Bellaire High School. He was an awesome person with an amazing personality. I never for once saw him get upset, he was always, always happy and smiling, and so eager to help. The last time we spent together was in High School where after a choir workshop, he gave me a ride back to the school. He was incredibly nice. May Joseph's soul rest in peace. My condolences to the Bements.

I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Joseph's passing. He had such a warm heart and kind soul and left us all way to early. I will never forget the time he and his family were generous eneough to take me to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels on a family vacation. My prayers go out to his parents and siblings; Joseph was truly a wonderful person and I'm honored to have grown up with him call him my friend.

Greg and I met Joseph when we helped with high school Sunday School. He was a ray of sunshine, always greeting me with a smile and a hug. His love for Jesus showed every week. He often asked for Greg to take off his sunglasses as he entered the room as, "Bond, Greg Bond." We are deeply saddened to hear of his death and will miss him dearly. We have been blessed to be "of the Race that knows Joseph," as Anne Shirley would say. Much love to his family and friends.

Joseph played football at Pin Oak with my son, Alex. Joseph was always so cheerful and bright - a true ray of light and joy. He was like a second big brother to my daughter, Sami. Joseph was always kind and respectful. The light of the Lord shined through him; Joseph is now in the very presence of that divine light. My heart breaks for his family and friends. He is already deeply missed. The world has lost a precious soul. Rest in peace, Joseph.

Joe was always there to brighten up anyone's day and provide a smile for anyone who needed it. He was so funny and sweet to everyone, every moment with him was full of laughter. I haven't seen him in a few years, but I remember laughing with him like it was yesterday. He'll be deeply missed. Rest in peace, Joe

April 24, 2017

Um, I really don't know where to start....
I guess, where it began for me, with this scrawny little nepalis kid who came to my door and answered the prayers of a majorly damaged, and hate filled kid who only saw the of the world and himself. That day was like the first time I saw the sun shine. I was about 4 or five and he was 6. I had just had my usual run in with some guys that enjoyed beating me and taking my things for fun so I was reluctant to go to the door. He saw my face and only smiled happily. He asked if I would be his friend and play with him cause he was kinda new and I said "Yeah, sure I guess". Joseph didn't become my friend or acquaintance or that guy who I went to see to be cool around. He was my brother and he always will be even in eternity.
Having traveled the world at a very young age with my parents, I have seen and met a lot of people. Millionaire children, pro athletes, movie stars both young and old, missionaries, pastors, rabbis and more. But never have I met anyone who cared and loved like Joseph did. Didn't matter what you had done, what your background was, or who you had wronged, Joseph would always be there when you needed him with a smile on his face like you meant the world to this guy. He brought the unlikeliest of boys together on this one, unimpressive street called Cheenah and made us into brothers who would ride together and would have died for each other without a second thought. Before him, I had no friends, but because of him, I was able to make something out of a toxic mess of myself. He taught me how to stand up for my self, make people laugh and love, to be sensitive to their pain, to throw a football, use my strength to build and help others rather than hurt and destroy, to find my imagination, to not care what others thought or said about me, to love others unconditionally, and to find in my self what God could use me for when I felt alone and discarded like a mere toy. It is because of him that I am the way I am today and have my other brothers Jarrett and Luke at my side.

Joseph, if I could I'd raise a city in your name and erect monuments to your love and kindness, but all I can do is honor your life and the big brother you were to this crazed, fearful and lonely black kid by being the boy who was inspired by you to step up and become a man who lived for others and above all else for Christ and brotherhood. So Joseph, I will live on even as you depart man. I will live for you and for the memory of the man you were to the countless lives you touched and changed each and every day of your life, and "I'll tell you all about it when I see you again"
Good bye brother, wait for me on the other side because I will see you again, and knowing that makes me smile even in this bitter time of loss.
Love you man, I can never say it enough.

Eugene

Joseph always made me smile and made me happy to go to youth midweek and volunteer. He always gave me a hug and made me feel so happy. He will forever be remembered as a amazing, loving, kind person. Joseph was in my class for only a short time, but I occasionally saw him after his schedule was changed, and he was always eager to engage in conversation. I'll always remember his positive attitude, his sincerity, and his inquisitive disposition. I was shocked and saddened to learn of his untimely passing. I hope that you can take some solace in the fact that he touched more lives than you'll probably ever know.

I'll always remember a radiant smile that would cheer my day up no matter what. I'll remember that awesome choir trip my freshman year, and how Joseph took all the pictures of my friends and I so that the others wouldn't be left out. Joseph was always kind and giving to others. He would always tell me how I would do great things in the future. I will fulfill that. I won't let those words go to waste. Rest easy, Joseph.

I remember it was the first day of fourth grade, and at a new school for me. I was so nervous because I didn't think I'd feel accepted there, or make any friends. But later that day after school Joseph shared his snack with me, and i found out that he was adopted as well. He was my first true friend at Kolter Elementary, and throughout middle school as well. He had a huge impact on my life.i will never forget the fond memories i have of him. May he forever rest in peace.

Joseph was such a kind and smart young man. I met him through a friend while at bellaire and we met again when we were office assistants during our senior year at bellaire. Dear Bement family,
It is with a heavy heart that we are learning about Joseph's passing. We not only knew him as a student at Kolter ES but he was also one of Pierre's good friends at Kolter, Pin Oak MS and Bellaire HS. We have only good memories of him: his beautiful smile, his kind heart, hard work and wittiness.
I remember when he used to come back on Kolter campus just to say hello and check how things were. It was just so nice of him.
Please accept our family's sincere condolences. We will keep Joseph and your family in our hearts and prayers.

Our hearts are broken. Joseph was loved dearly and will never be forgotten. He was the little angel that appeared on our doorstep in 2001 and changed our world forever. His smile was as sunshine. His loving, caring way with children younger than himself, never forgotten. He was the spark that created our community of boys and we are forever grateful. He was a friend and brother to many, both old and young, and will be missed by us all.

George, Barbara and family, we love you and are praying for you during this time of sorrow. We are here for you. As the days and months fade away, I pray that our bond never will. You have been a rich blessing in our lives and, although we live farther away, we hope to be as wonderful of a blessing to you as you have been to us. You are loved!

Joseph had the most vibrant and infectious smile in our high school Choir. Everyday I walked in I knew he would be there to greet me and genuinely ask how I was. To hear that he's gone is not only a loss to our choir family, but to everyone who had met, been impacted by, or loved Joseph. As undeniably heart wrenching as this is, I am thankful that I knew such a beautifully souled human. Rest in peace, buddy.
