Rex Atwood Obituary

Rex Allan Atwood passed from this life on March 14, 2011, after an illness. Rex was born in Martin City, Mo. on Dec. 7, 1925, to Joseph I. and Opal P. Atwood. Rex spent his youth in Kansas and Idaho. In 1943 he joined the Navy and was sent to Camp Farragut on Lake Pend Oreille in Northern Idaho for training. He did active duty in the Asiatic Pacific Area, spending most of his time as Fireman First Class on the USS PC 485.
Rex returned to Idaho, married Hilda June Lewis, fathering three children during the 16 year marriage. Rex later married Gwinda F. Reynolds (Thurman), adopting her infant child and having a son together. They celebrated 48 years of marriage in February.
Rex worked as a saw filer for various sawmills in California, Oregon, Wyoming and Idaho, where he retired from Boise Cascade. After retirement, Rex worked for Canyon County Weed Control.
Rex was preceded in death by his first wife, Hilda, an infant son, David Leon, older son, Robert A., daughter, Tonya L. Taylor, grandson Jonathan Robert Taylor, great-granddaughter Katelyn Wells.
Survivors are his wife Gwinda, daughter Debora J. Isgrigg (Rick), son Richard A. Atwood (Michele), eight grand-children, 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a good husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. We will miss him.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home with a private family graveside at Cloverdale Memorial Park.

Rex was a dedicated friend and a man you
could count on! A fine grandpa and great
grandpa. He could tell a great fish story, and did love to fish! Good-bye
dear friend and save some fish for us in
heaven!
